Helper animal licenses – 2003 animal licenses may be purchased Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 97 S. Main, Helper. Proof of valid rabies vaccinations and fees required.
Rape crisis hotline – Rape or domestic violence victims in the Carbon-Emery County area may contact the local 24-hour crisis line toll-free at 1-866-894-8610.
Flu vaccinations – The health district in Price will start giving flu shots Oct. 15. Oct. 15 clinic hours are 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Hours Oct. 16 are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. After Oct. 16, shots will be available Monday through Friday from 3 to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Carbon Hospital employees party – is planned Nov. 8 at 6 p.m. in the Skylight Restaurant at Price Holiday Inn. For reservations, call Arlene Bonello at 637-1486.
FSA livestock compensation – Carbon livestock producers may sign up for the compensation program until a deadline date is announced. For information, contact FSA at 435-381-2300 or visit the office, located at 88 S. 100 East, Castle Dale.
Active Re-Entry drivers – The center needs volunteers to transport people with disabilities to appointments, school and work on an as needed basis. Drivers are reimbursed for mileage. Call Active Re-Entry at 637-4950.
Cookbook recipes – The chamber is accepting recipes for inclusion in the organization’s cookbook. Submit recipes to Carbon County Chamber of Commerce, 90 N. 100 East #3, Price UT 84501.
Parenting for teens – The Family Support and Children’s Justice Center in Price offers a free class dealing with the issues, problems and difficulties facing teen parents. Participants learn about available resources, assistance to help youth return/remain in school, parenting/life skills, cooking and recreation opportunities. Contact Terry Willis at 637-0281.
CASA – Court appointed special advocates are trained community volunteers appointed by judges to speak for children appearing in court. Screenings are conducted on all volunteers. For information, call CASA coordinator Tarasina Compagni at 636-3431.
Frontier project – works to empower local families. The program needs youth mentors. For information, contact the project at 637-1497.
Carbon County Triad – meets the first Wednesday of the month at 2 p.m. at Price senior center. Members focus on law enforcement and aging programs to assist the elderly. Meetings are open to the public.
Carbon County RSVP – Volunteers ages 55 year and older are needed. Mileage reimbursement and liability insurance provided. For information, contact the RSVP office at 637-9118.
Lifeline pregnancy assistance, support center – The facility offers free confidential pregnancy testing, verification, counseling and baby supplies. Residents may contact the center by calling the 24-hour telephone line at 636-0700.
Cans for Care-A-Van – The service is conducting an aluminum can drive to help defray the costs of providing transportation to medical appointments for the elderly and people with disabilities. Bagged cans may be dropped off at Howa’s. For pickup, call the office at 637-9488.
Carbon County Humane Society – The non-profit organization offers monthly spay and neuter clinics at 98 North Carbon Avenue in Price. The group needs old towels and blankets. Members will pick up good used items for the group’s rummage sale. For information, call the humane society at 637-2908.
Carbon County Animal Shelter- AVID chip pet identification is available at the shelter. Hours are Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Carbon County Housing Authority – The office is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. The children’s library is open to housing residents Thursday from 1 to 3 p.m.
Foster parents – The local DCFS office needs foster parents willing to work with teens and provide emergency shelter care. For information, contact Cindy Saccomanno at 636-0219.
Helper library – Hours are Monday through Wednesday from noon until 8 p.m.; Thursday from noon to 6 p.m.; Friday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.; closed Saturday and Sunday. Contact the library at 472-5601.
Price library – Hours are Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 7:45 p.m.; Friday, 10 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.; Saturday, 11 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.; closed Sunday. Story hour is Wednesday at 5 p.m. and Thursday at 1 p.m. Children Pet Pals activities are Tuesday from 5 to 5:30 p.m. The free Halloween costume party will be presented Oct. 24 at 1 p.m. For information, call library at 636-3188.
CEU library -Hours are Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.; Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday from noon to 6 p.m.; Sunday from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Hours vary on holidays and during breaks. Family Support & Children’s Justice Center – offers crisis care for families with children from infants to 11 years old. Crisis nursery is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Families may use the nursery for respite, family crisis, court, doctors appointments, medical emergencies, mental health appointments, escaping family violence, attending parenting classes/divorce classes and AA/Narcotic Anonymous meetings. Child Care Resource & Referral – offers information on becoming child care providers and referrals for parents, employees or employers needing related services. For information, contact the agency at 613-5619.
Helper mining museum – From Oct. 1 to April 30, hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. From May 1 to Sept. 30, hours are Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tours may be scheduled. For information, contact Helen Tonc at 472-3009.
Prehistoric museum – From April 1 to Oct. 31, hours are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. From Nov. 1 to March 31, hours are Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Call the museum at 613-5060.
Habitat for Humanity – For information about volunteering or applying for homes, call the Habitat office at 636-3230 between 8 a.m. and noon.
Cancer screening – Southeastern Utah Health District in Price offers checks twice a month for women up to and including age 64. Clinics include breast, pelvic and pap exams at low or no cost. Women 50 to 64 may qualify for free mammogram vouchers. Call the health department at 637-3671 to schedule appointments.
Infant immunization clinics – The health district in Price offers the clinics Monday through Friday from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. After Nov. 1, the health district will not offer late clinics.
ABC Learning Center – has books, computers and activities for adults and children. Hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. For tutoring appointments, call the center at 888-2061.
Social Security – Located at the county courthouse in Price, the office is open the second Wednesday of the month from 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m., excluding a half-hour lunch. For information, residents may call Social Security toll-free at 1-800-772-1213.

Schools
Sally Mauro Reflections program – Students are urged to create and submit works of art in the elementary school’s Reflections program. The theme is “Signs of Courage.” Students may paint, sketch, punch or sew artwork projects. Entries may also include photos, videos and dances as well as original songs, stories or poems. PTA entry blanks will be available Oct. 10. Deadline is Nov. 22.
Castle Valley Center accepting wheelchairs, walkers – The center will write donation receipts for tax record for residents providing used wheelchairs, walkers, etc., to assist students in the Carbon-Emery area. Castle Valley Community Theatre performances – CVCT’s presentation of “Arsenic and Old Lace” will run Oct. 17-19 and Oct. 24-26 at 7:30 p.m. at Price Civic Auditorium.
