On Sept. 19-21 Carbon County 4-H Horse Project youth represented the county at the Utah State 4-H Individual Horse Show in Farmington.
There were two divisions to compete in, the two-handed (Colt) class and the project horse class. Each class had three age groups – Junior, Intermediate and Senior.
To qualify for the state two-handed show a participant had to show their horse in one of the three horse shows sponsored by the county 4-H program over the summer. Awards at State were given in each age group for the top 10 finishers in each show event and for all around.
Lynde Lleweyn competed in the Junior group finishing first in showmanship, third in western horsemanship, first in reining, third in trail and taking home first place Junior All Around. Lisa Migliori competed in the senior group taking second in showmanship, first in western horsemanship, fourth in reining and second place Senior All Around. Outstanding performances were turned in by both young ladies.
For the project division of the state horse show each county could send up to five 4-Her’s in each age group. Participants were selected by earning points at the county horse shows including the Carbon County Fair 4-H Horse Show.
Earning the opportunity to represent Carbon County at the state show this year in the Junior group were Lynde Lleweyn (county Junior All Around), Bobbie Pell, Garrit Pell, Chandelle Rudman and Carlie Johnson.
In the Intermediate group were JD Pell (county Intermediate All Around), Sara Johnson, Levi Colton-Romero, Jared Clark and Raelynne Colton-Romero.
The Senior group members having the opportunity to attend consisted of Arlene Cunningham (county Senior All Around), Joyce Clark and Lane Pell.
In the state, project show awards were given for the top 10 finishers in each event and for the top 20 finishers in three all-around categories.
In the Senior group Arlene Cunningham stood out finishing ninth in the scurry race, fifth in pole bending, fourteenth in all around speed and twelfth in high point all around.
