Kiwanis Kid’s Day – Something to Smile about

By Sun Advocate

What do you have on a warm sunny day in September in Price with over 600 children, hundreds of gallons of pop and more hot dogs and ice cream than you could possibly image? Kiwanis Kids Day.
Ed Howa was chairman of the annual event and an estimated 600 kids participated. There were more smiles than I have ever seen and kids of ever size and shape romped and threw, ate and played throughout the day at Washington Park in Price.
Its an annual event as the Price Kiwanis club joins hundreds of other Kiwanis clubs around the nation to salute the children of their communities. How many events can you attend where your children can play all day, eat as much as they want, win quarters every time they throw a dart or toss a bean bag and not spend a dime. It only happens once a year and it is always a big hit.
Besides the basketball and bean bag toss, kids competed in a variety of races, hundreds tried their skills at the climbing wall and kids took turns jumping in the jungle. The climbing wall was staffed by the recreation department.
A dozen kids also were lucky to win new bikes and scooters.
The event is completely free to the children and is made possible through several fund raisers throughout the year such as the ducky race in Scofield during Mt. Pleasant Days and the radio auction in February. Much of the food and drinks were donated or discounted by the venders.
