According to many who frequent the high country the colors on oak and aspen have been changing since early August. That color has continually shifted and is now starting to move down into the valleys as the tips of cottonwoods and other trees are beginning to turn yellow. This past weekend, as summer turned to fall, the colors in the mountains were spectacular along with the cool and windy weather. The misconception by many is that the temperature change is solely responsible for the spectacular fall colors, but the amount of daylight that continues to decrease is actually the most important factor. This year the colors will generally not be as bright largely due to the excessive drought we have faced in the last four years. The moisture content in the ground and in the plants is also another important factor in how the leaves display their brilliance in the Autumn.
High counrty colors will soon be moving into area valleys
