Dino volleyball team members work together to defeat the Emery Spartan in region eight action. The Dinos defeated the Spartans 15-5, 15-6 last Thursday night to clinche their first victory of the regular season.

The Carbon High Lady Dinos volleyball team opened up the regular season at home last Thursday as they hosted the Emery Spartans. After completing a successful preseason, the Dinos contiuned their winning streak by handing the Spartans a 15-5, 15-6 loss.
The Dinos made the game look fairly easy as they quickly dished out to the Spartans their region 8 loss. The Dinos who are a favorite to take the state title honor this year displayed quickness and precision as the team effortlessly gained control of the ball.
According to Dino coach Bruce Bean, the Carbon girls played well and displayed tremendous skills, most notably on the defense end of the court. “The girls blocked well against Emery. It was a total team effort with everyone contributing to the victory. This is a good bunch of girls that work hard and spend a lot of time improving their skills. We realize that Emery is down this year as they adjust to a new coach, but we took advantage of this and played quite well,” explained Bean.
The Dinos completed the game with 33 kills which is phenominal for a high school team. According to Bean, no specific player added to this figure more than another player. It was a joint effort by a team that values the meaning of teamwork.
The Dinos will continue their quest for a state title Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. as the team hosts the North Sanpete Hawks. Currently, the Dinos are on top of their game and are currently ranked second in the class 3A standings behind last years state champion Morgan.
The Dinos fell to Morgan last year at the state tournament and returned home with a second place finish. This year however, the Dinos are playing with intensity and are determined to capture the title this year. This just might become a reality considering the talent that this years team possesses.
