Jack Marshall


HELPER – John (Jack) Marshall, age 82, died peacefully Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002 in his home of cancer.
He was born June 20, 1920 in Castle Gate to James Brooks and Illa Hampson Marshall. Married Minnie Antionette Oberto March 28, 1942 in Yuma, Ariz. She died July 19, 1993.
Jack served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He also worked in various coal mines in Carbon County and later became a federal mine inspector in Emery County prior to retirement. Jack could be found working in his garden or on his Jeeps when he wasn’t hunting or fishing.
He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Survived by two daughters, Kathleen (Linden) Laws, Spring Glen; Mary (Jeff) Myrup, Colorado; son, Jack (Eunice) Marshall, California; brother, Robert (Peggy) Marshall, Helper; one sister, Lelia (John) Bouscher, Washington; sisters-in-law, Dorthy Ward, Provo; Rhona Martin, California; nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents; three brothers, James, Joe and Jerry Marshall; two sisters, Ruth and Evelyn.
Funeral service Saturday, Sept. 21, 1 p.m., Mitchell Chapel. Family will be at Mitchell’s Friday evening, 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday one hour prior to services. Interment, Mountain View Cemetery, Helper.


Robert Poulsen


PRICE – Robert Todd Poulsen, age 30, died Sept. 16, 2002 in Kansas.
He was born April 25, 1972 in Delta to Ronald Archie Poulsen and Patricia Watts. Married Katherine Ann O’Grady Jan. 12, 2002 in American Fork.
Member of the Baptist Church. Member of BACA. Robert enjoyed fishing, hunting and being with his children, Levi and Brittani. He also enjoyed auto mechanics and his truck. Robert loved to barbecue and was a good artist.
Survived by wife, Katherine Ann Poulsen, Price; two sons, Robert Tyler Poulsen, Wisconsin Rapids, Wisc.; Levi Cole Poulsen, Price; one daughter, Brittani Rayanne Poulsen, Price; parents, Patricia A. and Richard Drushal, Orangeville; three sisters, Lesa Ann (Travis) Byrge, Price; Lisa Marie Thompson, California; Teri Baker, California; one brother, Richard J. (Leslie) Drushal, Salt Lake City; best friend, William Langi, Castle Dale. Preceded in death by father, Ronald A. Poulsen.
Funeral service Saturday, Sept. 21, 2 p.m., Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will be at Mitchell’s one hour prior to service. Interment, Orangeville cemetery.


LaRue Layne


WEST HILLS, Calif. – LaRue (nee Olsen) Cohen Layne passed away in West Hills, Calif., Sept. 8, 2002.
She was born Oct. 22, 1922 in Emery, and grew up with her brother, Terry, and sister, Phyllis, in Price. She married Rickie (Cohen) Layne, popular ventriloquist of Ed Sullivan fame, in 1946 and settled in Northridge, Calif.
Mom attended Carbon High and Carbon College, where she excelled in drama and debate. She was a proud to serve as president of the AWS.
Although mom lived in California, she always had a special place in her heart for Price, the ranch where she was raised and the fond memories she had growing up with all her wonderful friends.
According to her wishes, she will be buried in Price cemetery next to her mother, Frances, and father, Albert.
LaRue is survived by husband of 56 years, Rickie Layne; brother, Terry Olsen; daughters, Sandy (Robert) Duncan; Teri Layne; Kelly (David) Benning; granddaughters, Erin, Ashley, Kimberly and Laura.
Burial to take place Saturday, Sept. 21, 11 a.m., at the Price City Cemetery under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home. Grave dedication by David Benning, her son-in-law and bishop.

Delma Simms


CARBON COUNTY/DENVER, Colo. – Delma Lavern Simms passed from this world early on the morning of Sept. 18, 2002 after a long battle with cancer at her son’s home in Denver, Colo.
She was born May 30, 1926.
Delma is survived by two sons, Ernest and Arthur Simms, Denver, Colo.; two daughters, Louise Butler, Texarkana, Texas; Linda Shaw, Tooele; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dexiy Griffin, Carson City, Nev.; Carol Pilling, Riverton, Wyo.; and one brother, Vernon Davis, Wellington. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Chester A. Arthur Simms; a daughter, Chesta Lavern Simms; her parents, Ernest and Olive Davis; three brothers, Mark Davis, Belmont Davis and Devon Davis; three sisters, Udella Mortensen, Lenore Davis and Myrna Alger.
A memorial service will be conducted in Delma’s honor on Monday, Sept. 23, in Denver, Colo.
A small service is also planned for family and friends who wish to pay their last respects on Saturday, Sept. 28, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Cleveland City Hall in Emery County.
