The Carbon High cross country team attended the Utah County invitational meet this past Saturday. The athletes battled the weather as they ran in the rain most of the day.
The meet was a large event with four separate divisions. In each division, about 200 runners competed for the top time of the day.
In the girls ninth and tenth grade division, Brittany Horrocks led the Carbon girls with a time of 25:54. Horrocks was followed by Lindsey Durrant, and Jana Burrows. The course was three miles long and stretched over grass, hills, and flat terrain.
In the ninth and tenth grade boys division, David Goodrich led the Dino team with a time of 19:10 followed by Teddy Prettyman who finished with a time of 19:28. Tyler Munns rounded out the Dino squad with a 21:37 finish.
The girls eleventh and twelth grade girls division was led by Melanie Madsen who placed 13 overall in the 3A, 4A, and 5A teams. Madsen received a large bronze medal for her efforts during this large event.
Janelle Bates ran a good time of 24:06 and Elizabeth Brooks was the Dinos third runner to cross the finish line in 25:46.
The eleventh and twelth grade boys divison was led by Isaac Goodrich who placed 14 overall out of the 200 plus competitors in the event. Goodrich also was awarded a medal for his efforts against top 3A, 4A, and 5A teams.
Scott Terry finished in 32nd place overall while Joe Palmer was the third Carbon boy to cross the finish line in this division.
Carbon High had a good meet with most of their athletes running well. For the boys team, Chris Cook, Derek Wood, and Tommy Garvin each showed improvement and could easily be strong competitors for the Dinos in future meets.
Lindsey Durrant, Audrey Oliver and Ashley Anderson also showed improvement while competing in the Utah County invitational.
The Dinos will compete in their next meet Sept. 11 at North Sanpete High School. Here, the Dinos hope to continue to improve while handing a loss to all competitors.
