“I know I am one of the few people in the world who actually has a career in a profession that I love.” says Chris Langstein, owner of Cottage Signs.
“I knew when I was in high school I wanted to be a commercial artist and pursued that goal until it came true.” added Langstein,”before I had an actual job as a sign fabricator I made hand painted signs on the side for friends and family who had opened small businesses.”
Langstein took art in high school all four years and continued into college, first attending Utah Technical College. There she acquired the skills of logo design, screen printing, media technique and sign compassion. After moving to Montana for a short period, she attended Eastern Montana College and studied fine arts along with her general studies to acquire her degree. When a career in commercial art did not materialize Langstein took many different vocations to pay the bills. ” That’s when I decided to go back to college here at CEU and earn a degree in office computers,” she said, continuing, “after graduating, it didn’t take long to realize that office work just wasn’t my bag so I took a job with a local sign company, where art training and computers came together perfectly.”
After five years she decided to go into business for herself. “Scary, but I knew the sign business wasn’t something I had just stumbled onto, it was my passion and I could not picture myself doing anything else,” she says.
Langstein has the skills to do anything required to give customers signage they need for their commercial or industrial business or just for fun recreational decals and lettering. Vinyl lettering, storefront, automotive, job locations, banners, re-lettering backlit signs, RV decals, high volume repetitive screen-printed signs, hand painted logos, edge printed decals, logo design, customize font or use one of 5,000 fonts available and re-creation are all services offered by Cottage Signs. Commercial and fine art, as well as crafting, is so much a part of Langstein that “I would be lost in this world without it.” Even my hobbies consist of making things. I have done extensive research of the North American Plains Indians and their Art of Survival before 1840 and before the reservation period, she says.
Langstein enjoys re-creating the items they made for beauty, as well as survival, and then using them.
