A collision between a motorcycle and a semi-tractor trailer on U.S. Highway 6 resulted in the death of a Colorado man Sunday at approximately 11:15 a.m.
Jerome Jehl, age 50 of Colorado, was killed when his westbound motorcycle reportedly ran into the back of a semi-truck.
The semi was also headed westbound in the right lane near mile post 260 when the Sept. 1 fatal accident occurred about four miles south of the Sunnyside Junction.
Jehl apparently was trying to pass a pickup truck traveling in the passing lane on the right when cyclist collided with the truck, according to accident investigators.
The driver of the semi, Jackie Holt age 55 of Texas was not injured in the accident.
“The pickup truck did not stop at the scene,” explained Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Jason Marshall. “We don’t think the driver was even aware the accident happened.”
The preliminary investigation conducted at the scene indicated that the semi was apparently traveling between 40 and 45 miles an hour in the attempt to climb an incline on the roadway when the fatal traffic accident happened.
Critically injured in the mishap was Judy Jehl, the 48-year-old wife of the deceased motorcycle driver. She was thrown from the bike and was determined to be paralyzed at the scene.
The injured woman was life flighted directly to University of Utah hospital.
According to the information Trooper Marshall received, it appears the victim will be permanently paralyzed . Doctors have little hope she will recover from the spinal injuries.
