Leonard F. Leek
CARBONVILLE – Leonard Fredrick Leek, age 76, passed away quietly at his home Aug. 21, 2002 while surrounded by his family.
He was born July 2, 1926 in Scofield to Foster and Alta Theresa Wright Leek. Married Betty Redd June 27, 1953 in Grand Junction, Colo., and they celebrated 49 years together.
Member Trinity Christian Church in Price.
Leonard loved to laugh, joke, have fun, and no one was a stranger to him.
He enjoyed traveling, camping and talking on his CB radio. His handle was known as the Grey Ghost.
Leonard was a retired member of the United Mine Workers of America, Independent Coal & Coke Local 1681, where he worked in local mines for 43 years. He just received his 60-year pin from the UMWA.
He will be dearly missed by his family and a community of friends.
Survived by his wife, Betty Leek, Carbonville; three daughters, Jeannie Leek Twitchell, Helper; Lenda L. Leek, Helper; Connie Leek Waddell, Carbonville; three grandchildren, Clinton Twitchell, Stacey Twitchell, Cody Waddell; five brothers and one sister, Jerry (Francis) Leek, Moroni; Kenneth (Judy) Leek, Fairview; Floyd (Sylvia) Leek, West Valley; William “Bill” Leek, Helper; Sam (Barbara) Leek, Scofield; and Shannon (J.B.) Wiggins, Moab.
Funeral service Saturday, Aug. 24, 11 a.m., Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will be at Mitchell’s Saturday one hour prior to services. Friends are welcome at Mitchell Funeral Home daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Graveside service Saturday, 2 p.m., Scofield Cemetery.
Betty Virginia Crissman
PRICE – The best nurse in the world, Betty Virginia Pessetto Crissman, age 78, passed away peacefully at her home on Aug. 18, 2002.
She was born March 16, 1924 in Castle Gate to Walter and Josephine Cormani Pessetto. Married Bill Crissman July 20, 1947 in Helper.
She graduated from St. Mary’s in 1946 with a bachelor’s degree in nursing. Betty was a lifelong member of the Utah State Nurses Association. She worked for Dr. John K. Wright from 1955 until his death in 1982.
Betty helped many people selflessly and loved the work that she did.
Survived by her husband of 55 years, Bill Crissman; two daughters and three sons, Jack and Carol Bona-quisto, Bill and LeiLani Crissman, Richard Crissman, John Crissman, Gina and Jeremy Evans; nine wonderful grandchildren; and one brother, Max Pessetto.
Funeral Mass Thursday, Aug. 22, 10 a.m., Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church. Vigil service Wednesday evening, 7 p.m., Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will be at Mitchell’s Wednesday and Thursday one hour prior to services. Committal service, Mountain View Cemetery.
Betty, the Nurse, was loved by many and will be missed by all. Her family always came first and they will always be her pride and joy.
