Summer projects objects of discussion

This summer several large projects have kept the Price City crews busy coordinating and supervising work. At the council meeting on July 10 several of these projects were discussed and payment approved towards many of them as they are completed or as completion nears.
It was announced at the meeting that a change order is necessary to incorporate expenses for an alteration in the pipe alignment along Carbonville Road. The increased amount raises cost of the project by $465,034.
Analysis of utility and blue staking data for Carbonville Road has resulted in a request from the contractor to change the proposed water pipeline alignments. This information revealed serious conflicts between the proposed water pipeline and the existing four inch and eight inch high pressure Questar gas lines under the road, as well as areas of conflict with the 12 inch and 16 inch Price City water lines that are presently there. The change in alignment is based on avoiding those lines as much as possible and placing the new lines in conformity with the county’s parameters on distance from centerline placement.
According to the discussion at the meeting, attempts during the design to locate existing gas lines were hampered by blue stakes refusal to locate them before construction began. So as construction has progressed the contractor has found that there is a much greater conflict with existing utilities than expected. A large number of existing lines would have to be relocated to make way for the new transmission line. It was brought out that the impact on the city’s existing water system would be significant and would negatively affect the delivery of water. However, by moving the new line further out into the road a larger portion of existing asphalt pavement will need to be restored.
In other city business J. D. Home Improvements has completed the reroof of the indoor pool. The city approved partial payment of $25,577 and extended the contract period by three days so the project can be completed.
Guymon Fabrication has completed the metal frame structures for the pool picnic pavilions and they has been delivered. The structures will be installed by city crews and then Guymon’s will install the blue metal raised ribbed roofs. Partial payment of $3560 was approved for disbursal on this project.
Badlands Fabrication has completed the construction of the 300 East storm water detention basin pedestrian bridge. The council approved the final payment of $362.50, which completed the total cost of $7,250 for the project. Kent Stilson Construction has also completed the installation of the storm detention basin. The final payment of $1418.50 was paid to them.
Ray Moore of Professional Engineering Services has initiated work on the design of the new boiler system for the city’s swimming pool facility. Partial payment of $750 was approved.
The Miox Corporation has submitted an invoice for payment in the amount of $88,843.50 for a Miox 502 package chlorine-mixed oxidant generation system for the city’s water treatment plant. They must inspect the system after the city crews complete the installation and monitor the start-up. Partial payment was approved.
Sunrise Engineering submitted an invoice for their portion of the Main Street reconstruction that was completed last month. The amount of $18,459.77 was approved for the construction management, inspection and testing of the project. The Utah Department of Transportation will be reimbursing the city for this cost.
