| Following retirement from the Helper Furniture Store in 1982 George Grivet assumed the job as printer for the Senior Citizen magazine. Now, 20 years later George is still showing up to run the 1700 copies. The newsletter is just one project at the Price Senior Center. Not only does the center provide a variety of activites, but it provides a social outlet for many of the areas older citizens. |
George Grivet retired from the Helper Furniture Store in 1982 after he closed down the business in July. That may have ended one career but Grivet was headed in another direction and little did he realize that 20 years later he would be still volunteering printing the Carbon County Senior Newsletter.
Grivet has only missed two months since 1982. That means that 238 months Grivet has showed up at the Senior Center and run off 1700 copies of the eight pages newsletter, both sides. He talked about Tammy gathering and typing the news and said, “This newsletter is a teamwork kind of project.”
In the newsletter this month the announcement that the ceramic department is cleaning house was made again. All items that have been placed aside must be claimed by August 1. All unclaimed items or green ware will be returned to the shelves to be sold. The ceramic department is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and from 1 to 7 p.m. on Thursdays.
Jeff Ohlwiler, from Pro-Rehab will be at the senior center on July 16 and 30 for short presentations on ways to help with back injuries and upper extremities like arms and shoulders. The one hour workshop will start at 1 p.m.
The July picnic was held at Little Bear Campground in Huntington Canyon on the third. However another camp out is set for July 12 and 13 at the Millsite Campground in Ferron. Campsite reservations will be the responsibility of each camper and can be made by calling 800-322-3770. There will be a Dutch oven roast beef dinner on July 12 at the Millsite Campgrounds in conjunction with the camping at 6 p.m. Reservations and payment must be received before July 10 to ensure enough food for everyone. Cost is $6 and reservations should made at the Senior Center.
The center will provide a Dutch oven breakfast on July 13 at 10 a.m. Reservations are required and must be made in advance. There is a suggested donation of $2 per person for those 60 years or older and those under 60 must pay $4.25 each. Reservations should be made by calling the center at 637-5080.
The Center will be closed for Pioneer Day on July 24.
The week of July 15 has been designated Memories Week at the Senior Center. The committee is asking each senior to share some type of memory whether it is a story, hat, jewelry, piece of equipment, photograph, or something else. They will take time each day the week of July 15th after lunch to share these memories.
