Rape crisis hotline – Rape or domestic violence victims in the Carbon-Emery County area may contact the local 24-hour crisis line toll-free at 1-866-894-8610.
Food handlers classes – Two hour sessions will be offered June 19, July 17 and Aug. 14 at 9 a.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the health district in Price. Classes will be taught June 20, July 18 and Aug. 15 at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the health department office in Castle Dale. Test fees required. For information, contact Claron Bjork at 637-3671.
CASA – Court appointed special advocates are trained community volunteers appointed by judges to speak for children appearing in court. Screenings are conducted on all volunteers. For information, call CASA coordinator Tarasina Compagni at 636-3431.
Frontier project – is looking for clean, used clothing for families and children in need. To donate, contact the project at 637-1497.
Carbon County Triad – meets the first Wednesday of the month at 2 p.m. at Price senior center. Members focus on law enforcement and aging programs to assist the elderly. Meetings are open to the public.
Carbon County RSVP – Volunteers ages 55 year and older are needed. Mileage reimbursement and liability insurance provided. For information, contact the RSVP office at 637-9118.
Lifeline pregnancy assistance, support center – The facility offers free confidential pregnancy testing, verification, counseling and baby supplies. Residents may contact the center by calling the 24-hour telephone line at 636-0700.
Cans for Care-A-Van – The service is conducting an aluminum can drive to help defray the costs of providing transportation to medical appointments for the elderly and people with disabilities. Bagged cans may be dropped off at Howa’s. For pickup, call the office at 637-9488.
Carbon County Humane Society – The non-profit organization offers monthly spay and neuter clinics at 98 North Carbon Avenue in Price. The group needs old towels and blankets. Members will pick up good used items for the group’s rummage sale. For information, call the humane society at 637-2908.
Carbon County Animal Shelter- AVID chip pet identification is available at the shelter. Hours are Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Carbon County Housing Authority – The office is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. The children’s library is open to housing residents Thursday from 1 to 3 p.m.
Foster parents – The local DCFS office needs foster parents willing to work with teens and provide emergency shelter care. For information, contact Cindy Saccomanno at 636-0219.

Helper library – Hours are Monday through Wednesday from noon until 8 p.m.; Thursday from noon to 6 p.m.; Friday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.; closed Saturday and Sunday. For information, contact the library at 472-5601.
Price library – Hours are Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 6:45 p.m.; Friday, 10 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.; closed Saturday and Sunday. The library is sponsoring free summer reading programs for preschool to third grade students and fourth to ninth graders. Story hour is Wednesday at 5 p.m. and Thursday at 1 p.m. Children Pet Pals activities are Tuesday from 5 to 5:30 p.m. For information, call library at 636-3188.

Family Support & Children’s Justice Center – offers crisis care for families with children from infants to 11 years old. Crisis nursery is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Families may use the nursery for respite, family crisis, court, doctors appointments, medical emergencies, mental health appointments, escaping family violence, attending parenting classes/divorce classes and AA/Narcotic Anonymous meetings. Helping Hands – Sponsored by Four Corners Mental Health, the group meets Monday at 1 p.m. at Washington Park in Price. Habitat for Humanity – Application deadline for homes being constructed in Castle Dale is June 30. Sweat equity, monthly mortgage and escrow payments as well as the willingness to partner with habitat for the term of a loan are required. Volunteers and donations are welcomed. Cancer screening – Southeastern Utah Health District in Price offers checks twice a month for women up to and including age 64. Clinics include breast, pelvic and pap exams at low or no cost. Women 50 to 64 may qualify for free mammogram vouchers. Call the health department at 637-3671 to schedule appointments.
Infant immunization clinics – The health district in Price offers the clinics Monday through Friday from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
ABC Learning Center – has books, computers and activities for adults and children. Hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. For tutoring appointments, call the center at 888-2061.
Social Security – Located at the county courthouse in Price, the office is manned by representatives the second Wednesday of the month from 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m., excluding a half-hour lunch. For information, Carbon residents may call Social Security toll-free at 1-800-772-1213.
Single mothers – Bringing Hope Foundation meets are Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Price Community Center. Single mothers share experiences and learn about community resources. No fees required. Enroll by contacting the foundation at 637-5542.

Carbon High 2002 graduates – Diplomas may be picked up at the main office. The high school will not mail diplomas.
Castle Valley Center accepting wheelchairs, walkers – The center will write donation receipts for tax record for residents providing used wheelchairs, walkers, etc., to assist students in the Carbon and Emery area. Carbon fair rodeo activities – The queen and king contest is slated June 22 at the county fairgrounds. Preregistration is required. Applications may be picked up and returned to Barbara West in Carbonville or at IFA in Price. Residents interested in being grand entry flag carriers may contact West at 637-7819.
Flag Day ceremony – Sponsored by Price Elks Lodge 1550, the ceremony will be presented June 14 at 6 p.m. The event will include a program dedicated to patriotic spirit at the Price Peace Garden, followed by a flag retiring ceremony. Theatre production – Coal Country Players and the college theatre department have scheduled summer performances of “Love Rides the Rails” or “Will the Mail Train Run Tonight?” Directed by Todd Olsen, the Morland Cary melodrama will be presented Aug. 8-10, Aug. 12-13 and Aug. 27-28 at the Geary Theatre on the CEU campus. Community Daze – Sunnyside and East Carbon City will host the 2002 event on July 13. Activities start with breakfast in the Sunnyside Park from 7 to 10 a.m., followed by the parade. Games, horseshoes and entertainment are planned all day. Carbon Recreation will have kiddy rides and the giant climbing wall for participants to enjoy. Bill Buckley & the Rocky Mountain Dance Machine will emcee events at the park from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and at the dance at East Carbon pavilion from 9:30 p.m. until midnight. Inspired by the Ancients – Mark Vranesh’s mixed media works inspired by rock art sites and landscapes in the state will be displayed until Aug. 26 at CEU Prehistoric Museum.
Sunnyside rodeo – The event is slated July 12 and July 13 at Sunnyside arena. The royalty contest will be conducted June 30 at 7 p.m. at the arena. Royalty will consist of a queen along with first and second attendants ages 13 years or older and two princesses ages 12 years or younger. Preregistration is not required.
