Each year, all-star teams are announced which comprise of seniors from each high school division. This year, two Carbon seniors were selected to participate on the class 3A south team and competed May 24 in Ogden at the annual game.
The Dino representatives included Blake Wilde and Zac Cloward, two Carbon players that will be greatly missed next season.
The Dino two-some proved this season just how talented they are, but it was now time for the star athletes to shine before a crowd of state baseball enthusiasts.
The game which pitted the north and south 3A teams against one another proved to be a game of determination and talent. In fact, both teams came with only one thing in mind, and that was to win.
The teams only managed a pair of hits each through eight innings. It was the bottom of the ninth inning in which the North team broke through with a single to left field which pushed the team one run ahead of the South.
The ninth inning turned out to be unsuccessful for the South who failed to score a run, leading to a 3A North victory, 1-0.
Although the team in which the Dino players represented did not walk away with the win, Wilde did manage to step up for the team in the top of the eighth inning. Wilde hit a single in the inning which was about the offensive highlights of the game for the South team.
The all-star game is one in which has become a tradition in high school baseball. In fact, this season marked the 58th year in which the show down has been held.
To be added to the roster of players is an honor for high school seniors. In fact, several major league players have competed in the event proving that the annual game attracts not only baseball enthusiasts, but also major league talent scouts.
For Wilde and Cloward, the all-star game served as a final high school game for the Dino two-some. However each will find that having a place to play will not be hard for two talented players who have given their all each and every game they have played at Carbon High.
