Monday’s fire in Meads Wash serves as a small sign of what is happening in the area. A much larger fire raged near Ridge Road about the same time and required considerable manpower from Wellington and Price to extinguish. With the holiday weekend looming on the horizon, fire officials fear the worst as campers and Utahns pursuing outdoor activities travel across the state. Caution when using fire or smoking needs to be a top priority during the weekend. The open burn season closed statewide on May 6, yet a number of out of control fires still plagued the Carbon County area last weekend. One large fire near Old Wellington Road drew a lot of interest from Price residents who could see the black smoke coming from burning Russian olive trees. People who want to burn on private property must obtain a permit from the county fire warden before proceeding with the projects.
