After placing at the state science fair, Martinez and Bunnell were invited to compete at the national event.
The Carbon High students were among the 1,238 participants from 39 different countries who competed at the national science fair event.
Martinez, a Carbon High sophomore, presented a display explaining how different exercises affect blood sugar levels. She earned an honorable mention award from the Endocrine Society for her project.
Bunnell, who has earned national science fair honors for three years, received a second place award from the American Association of Physics Teachers and the American Physical Society for his presentation about the Doppler shift in pulsating super giants. Bunnell will return next year to Carbon High as a senior.
