Pinedo was recently named to the Utah High School Activities Association’s academic all-state softball team. The Utah High School Activities Association has announced its Academic All State rosters, and one of the two Carbon softball players selected is Ashli Pinedo, with a 3.95 grade point average. Pinedo recently competed her senior year as pitcher for the Carbon team.
Pinedo’s softball career started when she was about 10 years old. Pinedo began playing city league softball, but didn’t start pitching until right before tryouts her freshman year, later lettering as a sophomore.
“Ashli is one of the most dedicated, committed and hard working person I know. I am very proud of her hard work and accomplishments this year,” commented her father and coach, Tony Pinedo.
My dad has been my main motivation. He’s always been there to support me, and believes that I can accomplish anything that I put my mind to,” commented Pinedo.
For most athletes, the same thing gets them going before a game, and that is “the adrenaline rush and seeing all of the people there to support the team,”stated Pinedo.
Besides playing softball, Pinedo’s hobbies include sleeping and rapelling, and is involved in many other activites, such as CSADD (Carbon Students Against Destructive Decisions), Renaissance, United Way and National Honors Society.
After Pinedo graduates, she plans to attend CEU where she has been accepted into the nursing program. Pinedo’s favorite subjects in school are math and job shadowing, which she participated in at the hospital. “I really liked job shadowing at the hospital because it is a career that I really want to go into.”
“I’ve learned that if you really want something, it doesn’t just come naturally, you have to work for it. Even when things get tough, you can’t give up, but you have to keep going,” ended Pinedo.
