At the last two Price City Council meetings, officials discussed purchasing a 10-acre parcel and the former United States Bureau of Land Management building located at 900 North 700 East.
At the last regularly scheduled public meeting, the Price council members voted to pay the $29,000 deposit on the BLM building and property.
Total cost of the purchase package is $4,289,575.
Although no specific plans are in place, the building and property are being eyed for several projects.
There is a major need to make more room for the park department, especially to store equipment, indicated the city council.
The city department presently shares space near the Desert Wave pool.
Another need may be on the horizon as the Price Community Center deteriorates.
The former school is located on the west and north corner of the block housing the police and fire stations, the college museum and city offices.
The building houses several agencies, including tourism, the Carbon County Chamber of Commerce, community recreation and economic development.
The ends of the building are sinking and the elevator had to be removed for safety reasons.
“We are considering the possible relocation of some of these offices,” noted Nick Tatton, city community director.
According to Tatton, purchasing the BLM property fits into future plans the city is considering.
The 10-acre parcel of property is also close to the ball fields in Price.
Other city council business on May 8 included approval for College of Eastern Utah to name the baseball field the Colosimo Carlson Baseball Field.
The council also approved a request to issue one-day pool passes to visiting band members for the International Day Parade. The committee hopes to draw additional bands to perform during the community celebration.
Finance director Pat Larsen presented the tentative city budget for the 2002-2003 year. A public hearing is set May 22. Following that meeting, the final budget will be approved.
