Senior citizens who are 62 years and older whose houses need fixing up may be eligible for a grant for up to $7500. Loans at 1 percent are available to any age individuals who qualify.
An applicant’s income is the key to eligibility. At the time of approval the applicant’s income must not exceed the very low-income limit. As an example a two person family’s income in Emery County must not exceed $18,200.00 per year and in Carbon County, a two-person family’s income must not exceed $17,100.00 per year. If you are over the age of 62, your unreimbursed medical expenses can be deducted from your income. This includes both prescription and non-prescription items. Please contact us to help you figure income eligibility.
No notes, credit reports or mortgages are required for grants. Only an agreement not to sell the home for three years.
For those that do not qualify for the grant, the agency can consider them for a loan up to $20,000 at one percent interest and up to 20 years to repay the loan.
Examples of repairs are repairing roofs, replace plumbing, installing screens, windows, insulation, siding, steps, wiring or any repair to eliminate a health or safety hazard. Rural residents, whose income exceeds the 504 limit, may be eligible for other loans that are also very favorable.
