| The Carbon Dinos recently competed in the Timpview Invitational finishing quite strong. Danielle Julian had a great performance with a sixth place finish in the 400 meter dash. Julian also competed in the 4×400 relay with Dino teammates. |
The season is in full swing for the Carbon High tennis team. The team has been quite successful this season, and their winning record improved on Tuesday, after the Dinos handed the Delta Rabbits a 5-0 loss.
The Dinos travelled to Delta, to face the Rabbits. While in Delta, the Dinos refused to let the Rabbits jump all over them. In fact, the Dinos literally stomped their way to a region eight victory.
In the singles match ups, Carbon swept the court with the Rabbits. The team looked strong and experienced.
Carbon senior, Matt King lead the way for the Dinos with a fabulous showing against Delta’s Cliff King. By the end of the showdown, it was apparent just who the king of tennis really is, and it turned out to be the King from Carbon.
Carbon’s King struggled last week at home against North Sanpete. In this match, King had a difficult time serving. The problem plagued King throughout the match and eventually lead to his defeat. Tuesday however, was another story.
King entered the court filled with the confidence that had seemed to have vanished in the last match he had played. In fact, King found his swing and successfull served against his Rabbit opponent. King managed to wrack up two set wins, 6-0, 6-2.
Joe Harber also had a tremendous performance for Carbon as he battled against Andrew Dutson of Delta. Harber has had a successful season for the Dinos and contined improving not only his game, but also his winning record. Harber was on top of his game as he dished out two non-contested loses to the Rabbits, 6-0, 6-0.
In the final match up in the singles category, Beau Christensen also had a great showing. Christensen who also struggled last week with his serving, bounced back to compete strong against the Rabbits.
Christensen who also seemed to have defeated himself against North Sanpete, found the confidence needed to dish out a loss to the Rabbits. Christensen completed both of his sets successful, leading to yet another Dino match win, 6-2, 6-0.
The singles competition was not the only matches that heated up the courts in Delta. The doubles events were also performed quite well by the Dino team.
Kellen Spillman and Ryne Vogel paired up to defeat Nick Shurtz and Chey Lewis of Delta, 7-5, 6-0. The win was a bright point for the Dino twosome who struggled last week at home.
Spillman and Vogel are the new kids on the block. The team lacks experience, however their skills are refined as a veteran team. The team has handed all of its opponents strong competition this season. Although the team may be young, they can sure serve it up against any region team.
The final match up found Sean Watkins and Neal Maynes pairing up to take on the team of Jeff Hill and Alan Houston of Delta. The Carbon pair was too much for the Rabbits to handle, dishing out the fifth and final loss to Delta, by the set scores of 6-1, 6-1. The victory boosted the Dinos team to a 5-0 win over the Rabbits.
The Dinos will continue swinging to success on Thursday, as the team hosts Moab. The Dinos look forward to the match up, after all, the Moab team has handed the Dinos a loss already this season. It is time for revenge, and the Dinos rackets are on fire. With the level of play the Dinos have been competing with, the match up between Moab and Carbon should be one for the record books.
