Andrew Johansen
HUNTINGTON – Our brave little angel, Andrew Charles Johansen, returned home to his Heavenly Father from his parents arms April 4, 2002 after a valiant struggle from an early birth.
He was born with his brother, Shane Emmett Johansen, at Utah Valley hospital Dec. 12, 2001.
He was in tune with his family and would look at them and give them comfort when they needed it most.
He is survived by parents, Larry J. and Anna Marie Bingham Johansen, Huntington; twin brother, Shane Emmett Johansen; grandparents, Merwin and Larie Johansen, Elmo; Clyde and Christy Bingham, Huntington; great-grandmother, Doreen Emmett, Fillmore; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Friends may call at the Huntington LDS Stake Center Tuesday, April 9, 10 to 10:45 a.m. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in the Huntington City Cemetery.
The family expresses their heartfelt thanks to the many friends and family members who have been by their side, especially the doctors, nurse practitioners, respiratory therapists, nurses and staff at Utah Valley who worked so lovingly and hard with our precious Andrew.
Jerry Marchello
HELPER – Our loving father, brother, grandfather, great-grandpa and longtime friend, Jerry J. Marchello, age 66, died April 3, 2002 at the University of Utah Hospital after enjoying his favorite pastime, riding his ATV.
He was born May 6, 1935 in Spring to Martin Marchello Sr. and Reha Johnson.
Jerry was a lifelong resident of Carbon County and a graduate of Carbon High School. He was a retired member of the United Mine Workers of America Castle Gate Local 1681. Member of the Slovenian Home in Spring Glen.
“Pa” enjoyed working at his farm and was an active part in Shear Joy’s daily business ventures.
He loved riding his ATV and will be dearly missed by family and a community of friends.
Survived by two daughters, Jeri Lynn (Howard) VanWagoner, Elmo; Joy (Mike) Gipson, Spring Glen; sister, Ruth (Marcel) Blanc, Price; six grandchildren, Ashley, Heidi, Drohc and Kylee VanWag-oner, Jason (Jennifer) and Joshua Gipson; and great-grandson, Noah Gipson Preceded in death by parents, two brothers and one sister.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, April 8. Interment, Mountain View Cemetery, Helper.
Louise Tatton
PRICE – Louise Burton Tatton, 87, passed away April 5, 2002 in Price.
She was born Dec. 28, 1914 in Kenilworth to John Arthur and May Bell Lundgren Burton. She married Maurice Tatton June 1, 1937 in Spring Glen.
Louise graduated from Wasatch Academy. Louise was a loving and devoted companion and caregiver to Maurice when he suffered a stroke.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice; and daughter, Phyllis O’Meara. Survived by son, Richard (Sandra) Tatton; five grandchildren, Jennifer (Mike) Hallman, Joseph (Kathy) O’Meara, John O’Meara, Nick (Danelle) Tatton, Ali (Vaughn) Cecil; and three sweet great-grandchildren, Andy Bry-ner, Samantha Tatton and Shawn Hallman.
Funeral service Tuesday, April 9, 10 a.m., at Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will be at Mitchell’s Tuesday one hour prior to service. Interment, Price City Cemetery.
Lee Kartchner
SALT LAKE/PRICE – Anora Lee Kartchner, age 58, passed away April 3, 2002 in Price.
She was born May 22, 1943 in Price to LaMont Henry and Enid Jane VanWagoner Kartchner. Married Mac Paskins, divorced; Ray Russell, divorced; Bob McCleary, divorced.
Lee had a great appreciation for music and especially loved playing the piano. She was a dear neighbor, a compassionate and loving person to many.
Lee loved the many beauties of nature and will be dearly missed by all.
Survived by son, Corey (Allison) Paskins, Logan; grandsons, Chandler and Chanse Paskins, Logan; father, LaMont (Darlene) Kartchner, Price; sisters, Patty (Nyal) Nessen, St. George; LaLani (Sam Haymes, Fruit Heights; Dawn (Jim) Leonard, East Carbon; Kathy Mabbutt, Salina; and DeAnn Mabbutt, Price; brothers, Ray (LaRae) Cook, Roosevelt; and Randy (Bobbie) Mabbutt, Price; many other loving family members and a community of friends. She was preceded in death by mother; sons, Michael and Thomas Paskins.

Arvetta Satterfield
EAST CARBON CITY – Arvetta Esma Satterfield, age 89, passed away March 31, 2002 at her home in Columbia, where she resided for the past 54 years.
She was born March 6, 1913 in Dalton, S.D., to James Albert and Estella Doak Hardin. She married Everett L. Satterfield Dec. 1, 1934 in Tulsa, Okla.
Arvetta graduated from Carbon College in 1951 and attended BYU, Westminster and University of Utah. She graduated as salutatorian from Utah State University in 1954. She taught art classes in East Carbon and at CEU for 25 years.
After her retirement, she taught adult literacy and art. She also served on the city council and as mayor pro-tem and was very active in civic affairs until her health failed her at the age of 89. She was one of the first three women to join Rotary International in 1966, later honored as Woman of the Year and as a Paul Harris Fellow in 1992.
Arvetta was the 1993 grand marshal for the East Carbon Daze parade. American Airlines gave her the Wings of Eagles award for her lifetime of service. The St. Joseph Indian School and Missions, Chamberlain, S.D., honored her for her contributions to their endeavors collecting toys and clothes for the children.
She maintained an apartment for battered women for the past eight years.
In addition to all this, she was an accomplished artist in oils, water color and acrylic.
Arvetta is survived by her daughter, Arvetta (and Robert) Patt, Whittier, Calif.; her son, Erbey Satterfield, Ogden; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; sister, Nellie O’Hare; and brother, Robert Paul Kappen.
Funeral services were Monday, April 8, at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Burial was in the Price City Cemetery under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.

Donald Gray
SALT LAKE/WELLINGTON – Our loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend, Donald Vance Gray, went to sleep Friday night and woke in the arms of the Lord on Saturday, April 6, 2002.
Like all good Scots when confronted with a formidable foe, lymphoma, he fought valiantly. His determinations to “never give up” was an inspiration to all who knew him.
He was born May 30, 1947 in Rawlins, Wyo., to Loren and Marjorie Salisbury Gray. He married Lauri Perkins in 1984. They were blessed with one son, Cameron, in 1986.
He graduated from Skyline High School in Salt Lake City in 1965.
Don attended Weber State College, participating in the ROTC. He graduated cum laude and was commissioned into the U.S. Army, receiving his second lieutenant bars at the time of his graduation in 1969. He served in the Army for four years as a train commander in the Berlin Brigade, attaining the rank of captain.
Upon leaving the Army, he spent a year in Scotland attending the University of Edinburgh and learning to play the bagpipes.
When he returned to the States, he began a long career in the federal government, working first for the U.S. Forest Service and then bringing his talents to the U.S. Bureau of Land Management.
He loved the wide open spaces of Wyoming and Utah. He and his family spent many wonderful days in the places he loved, camping, hiking and cross-country skiing.
He was very proud of his Scottish heritage and shared his love of all things Scottish with his family and friends, including its history, music and famous single malts.
He is survived by wife, Lauri; son, Cameron; parents, Loren and Marjorie Gray; sister, Sharon (Paul) Newton; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, April 10, 11 a.m., at the Price Chapel-Christian Missionary Alliance, 611 West Price River Drive. Family will be at Mitchell Funeral Home, 233 E. Main Street, Price, Tuesday evening, 7 to 8 p.m., and at the Price Chapel Wednesday one hour prior to services. Interment, Wellington City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Lymphoma Research Foundation or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
