Russell Pace
ELMO – Our dear husband, father and grandpa, Russell D. Pace, 80, passed away on a bright sunny April Fool’s Day 2002.
He was born Jan. 7, 1922 in Gunnison to Beulh and Eleanor Pace. He married Evelyn Louise Foster Pace May 27, 1946. They have five children.
Russ was a veteran of World War II, where he drove a tank and was proud to serve his country.
He was a painter most of his life and ran Russ Pace Painting for many years. He was a member of the Painters Union.
He is survived by his wife, Eve of Elmo, whom he cared for with loving care for the past three years as she has had a lingering illness; five children, Kim (Mark) Nelson, Boulder, Colo.; Kathie (Jerry) Anderson, Elmo; Cal Pace, Price; Kristi (Jim) Snyder, Huntington; Cliff (Brenda) Pace, Boulder, Colo.; 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Beulah Nichols, Salt Lake City; and brother, Robert Pace, Kearns.
Graveside service will be Friday, April 5, at 12:30 p.m. at the Elmo Cemetery. A viewing will be the same day at Fausett Mortuary in Price from 11 a.m. to noon.
Arvetta Satterfield
EAST CARBON CITY – Arvetta Esma Satterfield, age 89, passed away March 31, 2002 at her home in Columbia, where she resided for the past 54 years.
She was born March 6, 1913 in Dalton, S.D., to James Albert and Estella Doak Hardin. She married Everett L. Satterfield Dec. 1, 1934 in Tulsa, Okla.
Arvetta graduated from Carbon College in 1951 and attended BYU, Westminster and University of Utah. She graduated as salutatorian from Utah State University in 1954. She taught art classes in East Carbon and at CEU for 25 years.
After her retirement, she taught adult literacy and art. She also served on the city council and as mayor pro-tem and was very active in civic affairs until her health failed her at the age of 89. She was one of the first three women to join Rotary International in 1966, later honored as Woman of the Year and as a Paul Harris Fellow in 1992.
Arvetta was the 1993 grand marshal for the East Carbon Daze parade. American Airlines gave her the Wings of Eagles award for her lifetime of service. The St. Joseph Indian School and Missions, Chamberlain, S.D., honored her for her contributions to their endeavors collecting toys and clothes for the children. She maintained an apartment for battered women for the past eight years.
In addition to all this, she was an accomplished artist in oils, water color and acrylic.
Arvetta is survived by her daughter, Arvetta (and Robert) Patt, Whittier, Calif.; her son, Erbey Satterfield, Ogden; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; sister, Nellie O’Hare; and brother, Robert Paul Kappen.
Funeral services will be Monday, April 18, at 10 a.m. at Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Friends may call Sunday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Fausett Mortuary in Price. Burial will be in the Price City Cemetery.
