Jacob Wolfgramm has had a tremendous season thus far for the Eagles. Wolfgramm is one of the key batters for the Eagles, and rightly so, after hitting two home runs this past weekend against Salt Lake Community College. |
This past weekend was a long and rough one for the College of Eastern Utah Golden Eagles baseball team. The Eagles hosted the Salt Lake Community College Bruins in a four game series. Unfortunately, the Eagles found themselves at the losing end of the score board in each game.
The series began on Friday with the two teams competing in a double header. In the first game, the Eagles came out swinging, scoring four runs in the first inning compared to the Bruins two points scored in the first. The only other run the Eagles would complete in this game came in the third inning on a Jacob Wolfgramm home run.
The seventh inning found the Bruins running wild over the Eagles. Entering the seventh inning, CEU lead the Bruins 5-4, but an eight run rally by the visiting team would boost the Bruins to a 12-8 victory.
The second game of the double header was quite similar to the first, with the Eagles opening up with a 2-0 lead going into the second inning. The Bruins answered to these points with two of their own in the second inning.
The game was pretty well contested throughout, with the teams tied at five runs a piece going into the seventh inning. This was the time that the Eagles found themselves being swept by the Bruins who scored three runs in the seventh, leading to the Eagles 8-5 loss.
Saturday was much like Friday for the Eagles. In fact, the game looked like a repeat from the two previous games between the two teams. The Eagles once again came out strong, scoring two quick runs in the first inning. The Eagles lead throughout the game up until the seventh inning. This was when the Bruins bounced back from a 5-3 deficit. The Bruins scored five unanswered runs in the seventh to defeat the Eagles 8-5.
In the second game of Saturdays double header, the Eagles struggled to even score any runs. The Eagles were shut out by the Bruins 12-0 in the final game of the series.
The Eagles may have struggled to capture a victory against the third ranked Scenic West Athletic Conference team, but the Eagles did give the Bruins an impressive run for their money.
Eagles sophomore Jacob Wolfgramm had a tremendous series against the Bruins, with two homers in the series. Wolfgramm has been strong at bat this season for the Eagles and continues to perform well for the struggling team.
The Eagles difficult weekend drops the team to 5-15 in SWAC games played and 12-22 overall. The Eagles hope to improve this record this week as the team hosts the College of Southern Idaho in yet another four game series to be held Friday and Saturday. Hopefully, this weekend will be a lot more productive for the Eagles as they face the fourth ranked SWAC team.
