The Dinos recently captured their first victory of the season against the Delta Rabbits. The Dinos victory has helped boost the confidence level in the team and is bound to lead to great things for the Dinos. |
After starting off the regular season on a rocky road, it seems as if the road has been smoothed for the Carbon Dinos softball team. The Dinos started out the regular season with two straight losses, but Tuesday changed everything for the team who scored their first win of the season.
The Dinos travelled to Delta to take on the Rabbits. Although the Rabbits had not yet been defeated this season, the Dinos found the chance they’ve been looking for to hand out a loss to their opponent.
The Dinos stepped out of the box swinging well. By the end of the first inning, Carbon was already ahead of the Rabbits 2-1. The third inning however found the Rabbits rallying a comeback, with the team scoring three runs compared to the Dinos one.
Going into the fifth inning, Carbon was down 4-3. The Dinos then found their swing and managed to score six unanswered point in the fifth inning, setting the pace for the remainder of the game.
The Dinos then scored two more runs in the sixth inning. The Rabbits then answered with four runs in the bottom of the sixth. This would be the final rally for the Rabbits who were handed a loss by the Dinos. The final score of 11-8 was the first victory for the Dinos and the first loss for the Rabbits this season.
The Dinos continue to show improvement with each game. This was expected by Dinos coach Don Gressmen who explains, “this is a young team who will improve as the season progresses. They just need time to work out all the bugs and success will come with this.”
The Dinos team has truly improved since the season began. Batting has always been a strong attribute to the team, but it only continues to improve.
At the last home game the Dinos played, which was held on March 27, the team seemed uncertain of themselves. Often times, the players would second guess a play or even hesitate at bat. The jitters of playing in front of a home crowd may have added to this problem, however it seems as if most of these issues have been resolved as the Dinos hit the road to Delta.
In a game of fast thinking and quick wit, the Dinos must become more confident and comfortable on the field. With the victory against Delta, maybe the confidence factor will be boosted.
The Dinos will return home on April 9 and host the Emery Spartans. The Spartans so far this year have had a successful season. The Spartans current record is 2-0. After returning home from a game of fists held in Delta, perhaps the Dinos can dish out the Spartans first loss of the season.
The Dinos will continue to work out minor problems which have plagued the team so far this season as they prepare for their rivals, the Spartans. The confidence and comfort factor should be resolved after winning the first game this season, which will lead to an unstoppable and talented team in the Dinos.
