As his Coach Lane Herrick looks on, Carbons Troy Grundy tries to place a bunt during a recent home game. Last Wednesday evening Grundy took the North Sanpete Hawks apart before they could get off the field by belting out a three run homer in the seventh inning. The Dinos won the game 8-0.

The Carbon Dinos, picking up where the left off last year, are taking apart Region 8 baseball opposition this year just as they did last year.
Last Wednesday afternoon the kids from Carbon County traveled over the mountain to turkey land and plucked the feathers from another kind of bird; the Hawks. With their pitching staff they took away the Hawks claws and with their batting they sent them reeling to an 8-0 defeat.
Last year at this time the Dinos were undefeated at in both the preseason and in region play; this year they are only undefeated in region games and in the end that is all that really matters.
Right from the outset Carbon began beating up on North Sanpete. In the first inning the Dinos scored two runs while holding the Hawks scoreless.
It was a ditto for the second inning as Zac Cloward went 3-3 in the game and drove in three runs in the process.
In the third the game was slowed by a scoreless inning, but the fourth inning brought another run for Carbon.
By this time North Sanpete was flying away in retreat and for the next two innings no one scored anything.
But like a good general who sees his opposition retreating to fight another day, Troy Grundy decided to make sure the Hawks would remember how bad things could be for them the next time they meet on April 16 by blasting a three run homer in the seventh inning.
Carbon allowed only two hits by the Hawks in the game as the three headed beast from the mound made up of Blake Wilde, Josh Greenwood and Matt Jewkes slung strikes across the plate to Cloward time after time.
Meanwhile Carbon was able to manage 15 hits, a high for the season. Carbon also had no errors while the Hawks registered five miscues.
The Dinos continue their journey through Region 8 as they face Delta today (Tuesday) at 3p.m. For the Carbon baseball fan this is truly a magical week as they also face two non-league opponents on Thursday and Friday. Thursdays game will be with Wasatch and Fridays contest will pit Carbon against Union High School.
