Ella Passarella
PRICE – Ella Mar Olsen Passarella, age 78, passed away peacefully at her home on March 24, 2002.
She was born Feb. 24, 1924 in Hiawatha to Ira Glen and Myrtle Bishop Olsen. Married Frank Joseph Passarella on June 26, 1941 in Helper. He died Oct. 3, 1994.
Member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Graduate Carbon High School Class of 1941. Ella worked for the Western Union offices in San Francisco, Calif., and Price for 21 years. She also worked for numerous doctors in Carbon County for 14 years.
Ella was the volunteer extra-ordinaire for the Carbon County senior citizens, RSVP, and she was the driving force behind the Vial of Life program offered through TRIAD-SALT. She was also a volunteer for the Senior and Law Enforcement Together, cell phones for seniors, and was a pen pal for many third graders at Creekview Elementary.
Ella was proud of her home and yard. She was musically inclined and she enjoyed playing the organ and clarinet.
Survived by son, Billy Passarella, Telford, Pa.; three grandchildren, Lisa, Angela and Joseph; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Reid “Bill” and Lois Olsen, Helper; Byron and Carol Olsen, Price. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Michael Passarella; two brothers, Ernest and Laray Olsen; two sisters, Thelma Passarelli and Mabel Olsen.
Funeral service Wednesday, March 27, 2 p.m., Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will be at Mitchell’s Tuesday evening from 7 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday one hour prior to services. Interment, Price City Cemetery.
Troy Bryan
PRICE – Troy Clinton Bryan, age 39, passed away suddenly March 21, 2002 in Price of injuries sustained in an auto/train accident.
He was born Oct. 14, 1962 in Price to Theodore “Ted” and Elizabeth “Betty” Jewkes Bryan.
Troy loved playing pool, baseball, softball, and was an avid sports fan.
He found a great deal of pleasure being in the outdoors with his family and friend,s where they shared many special memories. He loved his job with Barney & Sons Welding & Fabrication, where he worked as an office manager.
He was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by family and many friends he leaves behind.
Troy is survived by his mother, Betty, Price; his son, Skyler, Salt Lake City; stepchildren, Jesse, Julian and Whitney, all of Price; brothers, Roger and Lori Bryan, Ivins; Steward Bryan, Price; sisters, Janet and John Barney, Helper; Susan and Kelly Nielsen, Price; as well as many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by his father.
Memorial services were Monday, March 25, at the Fausett Mortuary Chapel in Price.
Charlie Maddera
EAST CARBON CITY – Charles Clayton Maddera, age 39, died March 22, 2002 at his home.
He was born Jan. 8, 1963 in East Carbon to Charles Leon and Ruth Nidiffer Maddera. Married Julie Ann Bass Nov. 3, 1990 in East Carbon.
Longtime resident of East Carbon, where he attended the First Baptist Church of Sunnyside. He served in the U.S. Navy.
Charlie loved traveling, hunting, camping, fishing and spending time with his family and friends. He had a special love for music and loved singing to his wife.
He is survived by his wife, Julie Maddera; son, Robert Lee Maddera; daughter, Amanda Marie Maddera, all of East Carbon; parents, Charles L. and Ruth Maddera, Pahrump, Nev.; sister, Barbara (Blake) Ostovich, Salt Lake City; sister, Sandi Williams, Pahrump, Nev.; in-laws, Bob and Virginia Bass, East Carbon; many loving aunts, uncles, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mary ‘Allie’
Green West
PRICE/Salt Lake City – Mary Alberta Harkness Green West, age 84, passed away March 23, 2002 at Castle Country Care Center in Price.
She was born Sept. 30, 1917 in Murray to William David and Louisa Killpack Harkness. Married Clyde Melvin Green June 24, 1938 in Murray. He died Oct. 21, 1982. Married Elmer West Aug. 9, 1984 in Las Vegas, Nev. He died Oct. 19, 1998.
“Allie” enjoyed her family and she especially loved caring for her children and grandchildren. She was an accomplished pianist and loved to dance. Allie loved sewing clothes for herself and her doll collection.
Survived by daughter, Peggy (Brent) Griggs, Price; stepson, Gary (Lorraine) West, Salt Lake City; stepson, Dick (Virginia) West, Benson, Ariz.; grandson, Todd (Lisa) Griggs, Chandler, Ariz.; granddaughter, Kari (Bill) Spigarelli, Price; sister, Dorothy Losser, Salt Lake City; brother, Calvin LaVar (Dot) Harkness, Lake Havasu; four great-grandchildren, Jeremy, Nate, Haley and Ashley. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Gary Green; three sisters and one brother.

Suzie Tappan
MILLER CREEK – Suzanne Marie Feichko Tappan left this earth to be with her Lord and Savior on March 23, 2002.
She was born Aug. 29, 1955 to Frank Harry and Carol Preston Feichko.
Suzie’s love of the Lord affected all those who were touched by her. She was a very gracious person, always showing the grace of God to those she came in contact with. She was all about compassion and dedication. She continually helped anyone who needed her. She will be missed dearly by her many friends that she adopted through her journey of love.
She loved her special friends, Bill Zele and Nelda Davenport. Her love overflowed onto her family.
Her husband, Mike, was the love of her life and her soul mate. They spent years enjoying camping and fishing and just being together.
She loved her daughter with all her heart. They were best friends. She was the best grandma and will be missed dearly by Cody, Cory, Frankie and Christopher.
She was a loving sister and a great friend. Her smile was a ray of sunshine that will never be forgotten.
She is survived by her husband, Mike; daughter Tina and David Stokes; grandchildren, Cody, Cory, Frankie and Christopher; stepdaughter, Angela and Brian Cooper, and their children; stepson, Travis Barrington; parents, Frank Harry and Carol Feichko; sisters, Pat Preston, Molley and Paul Pantone, Katie Siddons, Sabrina and John Manuel; brothers, Frank and Juanita Feichko, Matthew Feichko and Jason Feichko; many nieces and nephews. Ruth Gerber
ST. GEORGE – Ruth Rowley Gerber, age 85, passed away March 20, 2002 in St. George.
She was born December 10, 1916, in Spring Glen, to John Henry Rowley and Ethel May Beckett. Ruth was nine years old when she moved with her family to Australia where she was educated, learned to love tennis and ballroom dancing, and became a strong, graceful swimmer. Not long after her return to America as a young woman, she met and married her eternal sweetheart, Grant Gerber, in the St. George Temple.
Ruth’s children were blessed to have a gentle and caring mother. She loved order and beauty and, wherever she went, she created a lovely home for her family. Using hard work and ingenuity, she at times even transformed remote ranch cabins into welcoming places.
She enjoyed traveling and loved flowers and delicate beauty of all kinds. She was a picture of grace and refinement and leaves a legacy of caring and compassion to the family and friends she loved with all her heart.
She is survived by her children, Carol (Brian) Allred Flay of Twin Falls, Idaho; Janice (Corrin) Nielson of LaVerkin; Gary (Kris) Gerber of Vernal; 18 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Saturday, March 23 at the Wellington LDS Stake Center. Interment was at the Wellington Cemetery under the direction of Spilsbury & Beard Mortuary.
Nelda Davenport
PRICE – Nelda N. Davenport of Price passed away peacefully Saturday, March 23, 2002, of causes incident to age.
Nelda was born Nov. 6, 1905 in Emery. She was the eldest child of Niels Nielson and Ella Mae Burr Nielsen.
She devoted her life to the ministry and work of the Lord and will be greatly missed by family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James R. Davenport. They had no children.
She is survived by four brothers and one sister, Royce Nielsen, Kaysville; Dwight, Van and Gale Nielsen, all of California; and Marian Broderick, Salt Lake City.
Graveside service will be March 26 at the Price City Cemetery. Family and friends may call Tuesday, March 26, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for a visitation at Fausett Mortuary in Price.
Donald Guy
ELLENSBURG, Wash. – Donald Eugene Guy, age 66, passed away March 9, 2002 at the KVHR Center after a long battle with Alzheimer’s
Don was born Sept. 20, 1935 in Rock Springs, Wyo., to Walter K. Guy and Marjorie M. Guy. Married Louise B. Guy April 2, 1956 in Dragerton.
He earned the Eagle Scout award from the Boy Scouts of America in high school. From 1955 to 1959 he was in active military service with the U.S. Navy. In 1963 he completed a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Utah. Don later received a Master of Arts degree (1965) and a Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology (1967) from the University of Colorado.
He joined the faculty of Wells College in Aurora, N.Y., in 1967. In 1969, Don moved with his family to Ellensburg, Wash., where he was appointed to a faculty position in the department of psychology, Central Washington University. At Central, Don was appointed as the dean of students in 1976 and became the vice president for student affairs in 1988. During his academic career, he published seven articles in the Journal of Experimental Psychology and a book designed for teaching high school psychology courses.
Don greatly valued community services. As a parent booster club supporter, he helped raise funds for many causes, including new uniforms for the high school band. He was active in the Chamber of Commerce (1980-1986) and the Rotary Club (1978-1993), serving terms as president in both organizations. He was an enthusiastic support and entertainer at chamber fundraising auctions. In 1985, Don served as the leader of a Rotary-sponsored team to South Africa. As a distinguished Rotarian, he became a “Paul Harris Fellow,” one of Rotary’s highest honors.
Don will be long remembered for his energy, wit, humor and kind heart. He became the surrogate mother of a flock of wild goslings and would often take “the boys” as they called them, out for a daily swim. He had a talent for yodeling, joke telling and playing the saxophone. He greatly enjoyed his salmon fishing and river rafting trips. Don was also an outstanding marksman at clay-target shooting and known for his “Killer Elderberry” win.
Don is survived by wife, Lousie; brother, Daniel Guy of Price; son, Kenneth Guy and daughter-in-law, Cindy Guy, Bainbridge Island, Wash.; son, Bruce Guy, Lewiston, Ida.; four grandchildren, Jessica, Corey, Kelsey and Allyson; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial service was March 16 at the Grupe Conference Center on the Central Washington University campus.

Franklin Walker
DUNCANVILLE, Texas – Franklin Reese Walker, 59, died March 20, 2002 in Las Vegas, Nev.
Born Aug. 9, 1942 in Provo to Franklin Richardson Walker and Helen Bertha Henderson. Married Karol Stephens Aug. 12, 1966 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He was the father of seven children.
Funeral services Monday, March 25, at the Edgemont North LDS Ward Chapel, Provo. Interment, Provo City Cemetery.
