Local basketball players compete in two ball tournament.
The Utah Jazz hosted the regional two ball competitions around the state last weekend. Carbon County residents had to compete in Lehi. The Castle Country was represented very well at the competition. Megan Tubbs and Amber Demaris won the eight and nine year old division giving them an opportunity to compete in the finals held at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City on March 28.
Tubbs and Demaris finished first when Carbon County Recreation held the local competition at Carbon High on February 2. By winning their division, the girls qualified for the regional competition held in Lehi. The tandem was the last to shoot at the regional competition. They scored 12 points combined to win.
Students in other divisions representing Carbon County included Felicia Olmos, Samantha Olson, Whitney Williams, Kate Kulow, Brett Davis, Pyper Jones, Jordan Moynier, Marcus Zaccaria, Taylor Olsen, and Jacob Butler.
Carbon High names new head football coach.
At its monthly meeting held March 13, the Carbon School Board announced that Don Gressmen will take over as head coach for the Carbon High Dinos football team next season. Gressmen has been teaching at the high school for 14 years and has coached the Dinos football team for four years in the past. Gressmen will be replacing former head coach Troy Moynier who resigned as head coach earlier this year.
Sports special scheduled for release.
The Sun Advocate and the Emery County Progress will release the annual spring sports special March 26. The special will accompany the regular newspapers and will give a run down of the local sports teams in the two counties that are competing this spring. Along with photos, rosters, and team breakdowns, the special also contains a full schedule of sporting events that are open to the public. The special is a must have for any sports fan.
