County cleanup – To assist residents in unincorporated areas with yard debris disposal, the county will place large pickup containers at the following locations from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.:
March 25, Kenilworth ball field parking area.
March 26, Spring Glen ball field parking area.
March 27, Carbonville at 1600 North Mountain States Road.
March 28, Westwood at 175 North 1280 West.
March 29, central and upper Miller Creek by the corrals.
March 31, lower Miller Creek at 7250 South 4000 East.
Helper cleanup – City crews will pick up yard debris, shrubs and branches cut into four-foot lengths during the cleanup effort. Debris should be stacked off the roadways and sidewalks. Crews will not backtrack or haul off furniture and appliances. The schedule includes:
April 1 to April 5, 1st through 5th Avenue, Castle Gate subdivision, Martin, Orchard and Bryner Street, 1st through 11th North.
April 8 to April 12, west Helper.
April 15 to April 19, east Helper.
April 22 to April 26, Locust, Maple, Poplar and Main Street, south U.S. Highway 6.
Mountain View Cemetery – Flowers should be removed from gravesides by April 1 to facilitate Helper’s spring cleanup effort.
Carbon Republican Party caucus, convention -The caucus is scheduled March 25 at 7 p.m. at the ballroom in CEU’s student union building. The county convention will be April 25 at 7 p.m. at the north side of the Love Floral building, 74 N. 100 West, Price For information, contact Diana Palmer at 637-7235.
Rape crisis hotline – Rape or domestic violence victims in the Carbon-Emery County area may contact the local 24-hour crisis line toll-free at 1-866-894-8610.
HEAT – The federally funded home energy assistance program has extended the application deadline until April 30. Identification, Social Security cards and proof of monthly household income as well as copies of utility bills are required. For information, contact the office at 613-0100.
Flu vaccination clinics – are scheduled at the public health department Monday to Friday from 3 to 4:30 p.m., Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. and Thursday from 9 to 11:30 a.m.
CASA – Court appointed special advocates are trained community volunteers appointed by judges to speak for children brought before the court. Screenings are conducted on all volunteers. For information, call CASA coordinator Tarasina Compagni at 636-3431.
Frontier project – is looking for clean, used clothing for families and children in need. To donate, contact the project at 637-1497.
Carbon County Triad – meets the first Wednesday of the month at 2 p.m. at Price senior center. Members focus on law enforcement and aging programs to assist the elderly. Meetings are open to the public.
Carbon County RSVP – Volunteers ages 55 year and older are needed. Mileage reimbursement and liability insurance provided. For information, contact the RSVP office at 637-9118.
Lifeline pregnancy assistance, support center – The facility offers free confidential pregnancy testing, verification, counseling and baby supplies. Residents may contact the center by calling the 24-hour telephone line at 636-0700.
Cans for Care-A-Van – The service is conducting an aluminum can drive to help defray the costs of providing transportation to medical appointments for the elderly and people with disabilities. Bagged cans may be dropped off at Howa’s. For pickup, call the office at 637-9488.
Carbon County Humane Society – The non-profit organization offers monthly spay and neuter clinics at 98 North Carbon Avenue in Price. The group needs old towels and blankets. For information, call the humane society at 637-2908.
Carbon County Animal Shelter- AVID chip pet identification is available at the shelter. Hours are Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Foster parents – The local DCFS office needs foster parents willing to work with teens and provide emergency shelter care. For information, contact Cindy Saccomanno at 636-0219.

Family Support & Children’s Justice Center – offers crisis care for families with children from infants to 11 years old. Crisis nursery is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Families may use the nursery for respite, family crisis, court, doctors appointments, medical emergencies, mental health appointments, escaping family violence, attending parenting classes/divorce classes and AA/Narcotic Anonymous meetings. Parenting classes are scheduled Thursday at 1:30 p.m. Call the center at 637-0281.

Helper mining museum – From Oct. 1 to April 30, hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. From May 1 to Sept. 30, hours are Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tours may be scheduled. For information, contact Helen Tonc at 472-3009.

Habitat for Humanity – Scheduled activities include:
April 6, cleanup at Valley View subdivision in Castle Dale.
April 20, golf tournament at Green River State Park course; team fees required.
May 4, bowling fundraiser at Country Lanes, per person fees with six members on a team.
Application deadline for two home being constructed in Castle Dale is June 30. Sweat equity, monthly mortgage and escrow payments as well as the willingness to partner with habitat for the term of a loan are required. Volunteers and donations are welcomed. Cancer control program – Free pap smears and mammogram vouchers are available to eligible women 50 years and older at the medical clinic in East Carbon. Women 40-49 may also qualify for free mammograms. For information on income guidelines, contact the clinic weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Cancer screening – Southeastern Utah Health District in Price offers checks twice a month for women up to and including age 64. Clinics include breast, pelvic and pap exams at low or no cost. Women 50 to 64 may qualify for free mammogram vouchers.
Infant immunization clinics – The health district in Price offers the clinics Monday through Friday from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
ABC Learning Center – has books, computers and activities for adults and children. Hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. For tutoring appointments, call the center at 888-2061.
Social Security – The Price contact station is located at the county courthouse. Representatives are at the office the second Wednesday of the month from 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m., with a half-hour lunch break. For information, call Social Security toll-free at 1-800-772-1213.

Head Start yard sale – Head Start will accept donations for the playground equipment fundraiser until 3 p.m. on April 5. The sale will be conducted April 6 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the old Wal-Mart parking lot. For information, contact the center at 637-4960.

Yearbook archives – College of Eastern Utah Library is looking for copies of CEU and Carbon High yearbooks its archives. The missing years include 1928, 1933, 1939, 1955, 1959, 1961 and 1966. The WWII years are also missing, but the library is not positive if any were produced during the war. Contact the CEU library at 613-5209.
