Nell Barnett
PRICE – Nell Irene Graham Barnett, age 90, passed away March 9, 2002 at Castle Country Care Center in Price.
She was born July 19, 1911 in Tracy, Iowa, to Joseph and Flora Shilling Graham. Married John A. Barnett March 9, 1931 in Harlan, Iowa. He died Feb. 25, 1986.
Nell loved her church and reading her Bible.
Longtime resident of Hiawatha prior to moving to Price in 1976.
She enjoyed her flowers, gardening and canning. Nell loved making quilts for others and playing scrabble.
Survived by five daughters, three sons and their spouses, Helen B. Garr, East Carbon; Pearl B. (Devon) Oliver, Price; John J. (Jerri) Barnett, Emery; Norma B. (Quint) Pickup, Price; Andrew K. (Wilma) Barnett, Price; Roy R. (Lynda) Barnett, Price; Joy B. (Duane) Hanson, East Carbon; Dorthy B. (Ryan) Hansen, Price; two sisters, Eliza Crozier, Knoxville, Iowa; Pearl Phillips, Keosauqua, Iowa; 34 grandchildren, 59 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by brothers, Buell, Marsh and Melvin; sisters, June and Ona.
Funeral service Wednesday, March 13, 1 p.m., Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will be at Mitchell’s Tuesday evening, 7 to 9 p.m., and Wednesday one hour prior to services. Interment, Price City Cemetery.
Lyla Thayn
WELLINGTON – Lyla K. Thayn was reunited with her eternal companion and sweetheart March 9, 2002 in Heber City at the home of her daughter, Karol Hartley.
Lyla was the third child of George Kuehner and Mary Beatrice Willis Born in Guelph Ontario, Canada, Aug. 20, 1921. She left her native land and was sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple to Phil E. Thayn Nov. 4, 1944. She stood faithfully by his side for over 50 years.
Lyla and Phil made their home in Wellington, where they operated a dairy farm and later a ranch. Lyla cooked many meals for the farm and opened her home to many strangers and foster children.
An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, her life was a mission of service. She diligently and faithfully served as Relief Society president, Young Women’s president and many other callings. Lyla served at the side of her husband as stake mission president, as missionaries in the Coventry England mission and as his scribe while he served as stake patriarch in the Wellington LDS Stake. Lyla and her husband worked in the Manti LDS Temple for eight years.
She loved sports and was an avid fan of the Utah Jazz, BYU basketball and football and the Cubs baseball team. She never missed a sports event where her grandchildren participated if possible.
Enjoying crocheting and sewing, she made many beautiful things for her family. She enjoyed playing the piano and organ and especially loved being the primary pianist and listening to the children sing.
She loved her family and was truly an example to us all. She will be deeply missed.
Survived by three children, Karol (Larry) Hartley, Roger (Cindi) Thayn and Terry Thayn, along with 14 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and sister, Marjory Flake, Snowflake, Ariz. Preceded in death by parents, brother and husband.
Friends may call for a visitation at the Fausett Mortuary in Price Friday, March 15, 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be at the Wellington LDS Stake Center Saturday March 16, 11 a.m., with a visitation at the church one hour prior to services. Interment, Wellington City Cemetery.

Her one wish was that everyone would love one another!
Opal Jensen
FERRON – Opal Torgerson Jensen, age 76, died Friday, March 8, 2002, surrounded by her children.
She was born July 27, 1925 in Emery to Edward Vaughn Torger-son and Ruby Worthington Torgerson. She married Max W. Jensen Feb. 25, 1949 in the Manti LDS Temple.
Opal was a member of the LDS Church and served in many positions throughout her life. She worked at Emery County Nursing Home and was the director of the Emery County senior citizen center.
She had a love for life, music, dancing, family and friends.
She is survived by two sons and three daughters, Renea (Eddie) Fischer, Salt Lake; Ruth (Dean) Harmer, Salina; Coy Jensen, Clawson; Christine (Kenneth) Tanner, Mesa, Ariz.; Russel (Julie) Jensen, Ferron; one brother, Mark (Darlene), Salt Lake; one sister, Mary (Bob) Ridinger, Salt Lake; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband, Max; parents; one sister and one grandson.
Funeral services will be Saturday, March 16, at noon at the Blue Hills LDS Ward, 35 North Ferron. A viewing will be one hour prior to services. Burial will follow in the Ferron Cemetery under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.
