The College of Eastern Utah women’s basketball team finished a two game road trip with back to back victories. After struggling throughout the season, the Lady Eagles hope to finish the season strong, and with the double victories, the women are on the road to doing so with only one game left in the regular season.
The Eagles began the weekend in Oregon where they completed a win over the Treasure Valley Chuckers, 68-56. This victory found the entire Eagles team contributing to the final score.
Megan Valgardson lead the Eagles in scoring with 15 points. Valgardson also lead the Eagles in rebounding with a total of nine rebounds against the Chuckers.
Rose Hamilton followed in scoring with 12 points. Hamilton shot 3-6 from the three point line while dishing out five assists, stealing three balls, and pulling down two rebounds.
The Eagles bench also had the opportunity to contribute to the team effort, and this contribution was quite successful. Brindi Spadafora completed the game with nine points. From the three point line, Spadafora was quite successful with 3-5 completed while also stealing the ball three times against the struggling Chucker team.
Alexandra Cobb also assisted the Eagles in the victory against the Chuckers with seven rebounds and six points. Dawnielle Boudreaux helped the Eagles out defensively with two blocked shots and two rebounds.
The victory over the Chuckers was a complete team effort, and the Eagles carried this effort on to Idaho where the team played the Southern Idaho Golden Eagles. Once again, the Eagles from CEU walked away victorious by the score of 64-62.
Julianne Orgill lead CEU in scoring with 17 points. Orgill also completed seven steals, two blocked shots, three assists, three rebounds, and 1-2 three point shots.
The extraordinary performance from Orgill carried over to her teammates who assisted the team in the road victory. Kasey Mills scored nine points while stealing seven balls, dishing out four assists, and pulling down two rebounds Saturday night in Idaho.
Once again, Hamilton played a great game. Hamilton finished with seven points, 10 assists, and six rebounds.
The two victories this past weekend bring the Eagles to 6-11 record in the Scenic West Athletic Conference standings, and 11-18 overall this season. Although the Eagles have been plagued with bad luck this season, the team seems to be turning things around as the season nears a completion.
The Eagles will finish the season Friday in Colorado as the team meets the Spartans of Colorado Northwestern Community College. The Eagles hope to finish the season strong against the struggling Spartan team.
As the Eagles prepare to finish the season, they are reminded of what a struggle it has been throughout the year. Although the team has not won many games, the experience the team has gathered is far more valuable than a winning record.
As the team prepares to move on in many different directions at the end of the season, the Eagles are reminded of how strong the teams determination to win really has been during the season. This determination will carry on to Friday’s game in Colorado where the team will play for pride and a final season victory.
