•A cheerleading workshop for youth ages 4-15 years will be offered by College of Eastern Utah’s cheer, yell and song leading squads on Saturday, Feb. 2 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the BDAC.
Basic and advanced cheerleading and dance skills will be taught along with motion techniques, jumps, gymnastics and chants plus sideline cheer and dance routines.
“The workshop will be good for any student who wants to learn the sport of cheerleading from the basic to advanced techniques. We will work with the younger participants to teach them basic skills. We will also private coach the older students who plan to tryout for area junior and senior high squads on proper techniques for jumps, gymnastics, pyramids, dances and chants,” explained Susan Polster, cheerleading advisor.
Cost for the one-day workshop is $20 with each participant receiving an official CEU cheerleading T-shirt, certificate of participation and the opportunity of performing during halftime at the CEU men’s basketball game that evening.
•Annual spring youth basketball tournament to be held in April.
North American Youth Sports announced today that they will hold their annual spring youth basketball tournament in Salt Lake City, Utah at North Ridge High School on April 4-6, 2002.
This tournament will feature 10 different brackets. They include 5th-6th grade boys; 5th-6th grade girls; 7th grade girls; 7th grade boys; 8th grade boys; 8th grade girls9th-10th grade boys; 9th-10th grade girls; 11th-12th grade boys; 11th-12th grade girls. All grades are based on the grade in which a student is currently enrolled.
The entry fee for this tournament is $90 and guarantees each team a minimum of two games. There will be awards presented in each bracket.The entry deadline is March 15, 2002.
