The Division of Wildlife Resources held a wild turkey release Jan. 10 at the south fork of Gordon Creek. DWR authorities along with local supporters for the project attended, releasing two toms and 13 hens into the area.
The birds were Rio Grande subspecies that came from Kansas. Along with the 15 birds that were released in Gordon Creek, 30 birds were also released into the Range Creek area.
The turkey releases were part of a state wide project, that brought in a total of 184 birds into Utah, which were released into five different regions, including the two local areas.
The release came just in time, as the National Wild Turkey Federation is planning to hold a banquet Jan. 26 at Chelsey’s Manor at 5:30 p.m. for anyone who is interested in preserving the turkey species.
