It has not been the best season for the Carbon Dinos, yet they have showed a lot of promise at times.
However one of those times was not last Friday night when the team lost to the 2-8 Delta Rabbits in Millard County 66-55.
The Dinos went into this game with confidence that they could beat the Delta squad who had the worst preseason record in Region 8. Maybe that confidence was the problem or maybe Delta had just played a tough preseason schedule, but somehow the Rabbits were able to come through winning their first league victory of the year.
The first period brought a shock to the Dinos. The Rabbits were able to out score the eastern Utah contingent 17-7 and take a big lead right off the bat.
However, in the second period Carbon roared back with Matt Jewkes leading the way as they almost copied what Delta had done in the first period with a 16-8 mashing, which turned the Rabbit defense into stew.
At the half Delta led 25-23, but Carbon seemingly had the momentum going in their favor.
Carbon came out well, but Delta matched the scoring in the third period and actually pulled a little ahead scoring 16 points to the Dinos 13 in the quarter.
Once again the Dinos made a run in the fourth, but Delta matched it and them some pulling out a big 25 points in the fourth quarter led by Dallin Jeffrey.
Matt Jewkes led Carbon with 15 points, while Jake Wood put in 11.
The Dinos now face North Sanpete in Mount Pleasant on Friday night.
