Carbon scores first league win

The fourth ranked team in the state, the Carbon High Lady Dinos once again stopped the competition. The Dinos hosted Delta Jan. 10, and the Dinos were not about to let the Rabbits come to their home and run the show.
The Dinos, lead by Cassie Warburton who finished with 16 points and 16 rebounds, played a strong overall game against Delta. The Dinos walked away victorious by the score of 63-34, boosting the team to 11-2 over all.
The Lady Dinos began the route early and often as they jumped out to a 11-6 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Carbon’s domination was even stronger in the second quarter as they took off with three point shooting in a 19-3 passing of the Lady Rabbits.
It’s a sure thing that the Delta coaches tried to shore up the west desert teams defense during the half, but the kids from Millard County only took it on the chin once more in the third quarter as Carbon put through 23 points in the third period. The Carbon defense was superb anchored by Chelsey and Cassie Warburton’s fast hands and with Stephanie Cox and Brittany Pollastro’s tough play inside.
By the beginning of the fourth quarter, Coach Bruce Bean decided the Lady Rabbits had had enough of the powerful Lady Dino varsity and began to substitute with junior varsity and sophomore players. Consequently the Delta squad was able to outscore the Lady Dinos 14-10 in the fourth period.
The Warburton sisters dominated the floor. The only three point field goals made by the Dinos all came from the Warburtons. Cassie completed one, Morgan three, and Chelsey two.
The outstanding play of the Warburton’s carried over to the remainder of the Dinos team.
Stephanie Cox finished the game with nine points, Brittany Pollastro scored eight, and Danielle Julian completed with four points.
The Dinos seem to only improve with time. If the improvement continues, the team will be almost unstoppable by the end of the season, thus possibly leading the ladies to a state championship.
The next game for the Lady Dinos is Jan. 15 at Emery High School in Castle Dale. The Spartans hope to dowse the red hot team, but the Dinos intend to sweep the floor at Emery.
