Leo Nielsen
CASTLE DALE – Leo Nielsen, age 91, passed away at the home of his son in Castle Dale on Jan. 3, 2002 of causes incident to age
Leo was born on April 15, 1910 in Winter Quarters to Christian Ed Nielsen and Sarah Evelyn Gibson. Married Barbara Reo Cash March 31, 1936 in Castle Dale. She passed away on Sept. 2, 1963. The marriage was solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple on Oct. 7, 1995. He later married Bernice Blackburn Davis on May 31, 1968. She passed away on Jan. 3, 1995.
Leo worked in the coal mine at Castle Gate for 18 years. He was owner and operator of Leo’s Place in Castle Dale for 21 years. Employee of Emery County Road Department for 17 years, from which he retired in 1973.
He enjoyed traveling, fishing, gardening (there were no weeds in his garden) and just spending time with his family.
He was a member of the LDS Church and a lifetime member of BPO Elks in Price.
He is survived by his son, Chris and Sunny Nielsen; stepchildren, Dixie and Russell Swasey, Kathleen and Vernell Rowley, Dale Davis; three brothers, Ted and Ellen Nielsen, Dee and Beverly Nielsen and Glen and Alice Nielsen; 13 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by Reo and Bernice; infant daughter, Reo Louise; six sisters, Marie Jensen, infant Rene Nielsen, Edna Hansen, Erma Nelson, Georgia Teeter and Evelyn Empy; and stepsons, Earl Davis and Ronald Davis.
Funeral services were Monday, Jan. 7, at the Castle Dale LDS Stake Center. Burial followed in the Castle Dale Cemetery under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.
Elmer ‘Sandy’ Sandall Jr.
SALT LAKE CITY – Elmer (Sandy) Sandall Jr., age 74, passed away Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002 in Salt Lake.
Now he may dance with his partner, “Red,” forever in happiness.
He was born June 20, 1927 in Tremonton, a son of Elmer Adams and Purces Monday Sandall. He married Marion Ruth Preston Dec. 1, 1948 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She passed away Oct. 7, 2000.
He had resided in Tremonton, Sunnyside and Salt Lake City. He served an LDS stake mission in the elders quorum and as a high priest and as a Sunday School and Young Men’s organization.
Sandy loved hunting, fishing and coaching Little League and being with his family. He served his country proudly during World War II with the Marines.
He was a barber for 30 years.
He is survived by five sons, Hubert J., Ogden; Wayne C., Nebraska; Bruce R., Sandy; Tim E., Draper; and Bryon S., St. George; one daughter, Irene Webster, Salt Lake City; 30 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Two sisters also survive, Thelma Mobley, South Valley Care Center, West Jordan; and Ruth Barkle, Moses Lake, Wash. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth M. Sandall; parents; one brother, Hubert; and one sister, Donna.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, Jan 8, 11 a.m., at the Winder 1st LDS Ward, 1250 E. 4530 South, Salt Lake City. Friends and family may call at the chapel from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services.
