The Sports View

By Sun Advocate

The winter Olympics are almost upon us and all I can think is why not make professional football an olympic sport?
Sure, soccer is an olympic sport which some countries call futball, but I want to see the real sport of football played during the winter olympics.
Why the winter olympics? Because football is at its best during the winter months. The play is more intense and the players sure are not wearing nicely starched and cleaned jerseys while playing in the snow. This is tough man football and it is a hoot to watch.
Most countries do not play the game of football quite the way America does, but after all, there have been bobsled teams from Jamaica.
I feel that if football was accepted as an olympic sport, other countries will adapt to the style of play that is popular to America in order to compete in the sport at a national level.
Most olympic sports are supported by spectators cheering silently from the stands. Let’s include a sport that fans can watch and have a good time supporting without holding back emotions.
Football is a sport that is popular worldwide and I feel would be accepted by the public as an olympic sport.
Football players are conditioned athletes that work hard to play at their fullest potential just as any other olympic athlete. I say allow the best players from the NFL to participate in the games just as the NBA allows its players to play in the summer olympics in basketball.
Let’s add some zest to the winter olympics and make professional football an olympic sport. A sport that fans worldwide would support.
