Helper’s American Legion team will play Saturday.
After a mini-tournament this past weekend, the Salt Lake Valley American Legion Baseball League will send 10 teams to the state playoffs beginning this weekend at Oquirrh Park in Kearns.
The first eight teams qualified by taking the top eight spots of the 28 team league regular schedule. Last week the second eight teams played for the remaining two spots. Timpanogas will go in as the ninth team and Murray will go in as the last team.
Helper, by virtue of it’s record of 16-4, and it’s defeat of Taylorsville during the regular season is going in as the second seed behind West Jordan which ended up with an 18-2 record.
Team manager Jeff Cisneros and coach Jeff Jewkes are confident in the ability of their team to do well in the tournament.
The Helper men will now play at 5:00 p.m. at Oquirrh Park on the number four north field on Saturday. Their winning or losing the first game will determine their when their next game will be held and which opponent they will face.
Carbon football tryouts and practices begin.
Coach Troy Moynier announced on Monday that football tryouts and practices for the Carbon High Dinos football team begins on August 6 at 7 a.m. That day will also begin the commencement of two-a-day practices. The Dinos first football game is against Payson at home on the CEU field on August 17.
