Together Again

SPRING GLEN- Helen Matekovic, age 82, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2017, at Pinnacle Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, under Symbii hospice care, surrounded by her family, and was reunited with her loving husband, Jack. She was born on March 28, 1935, in Bingham City, Utah to George and Mary Mikulas Drazich. Married Jack Matekovic on June 26, 1954, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Helper, Utah. They were married for 50 years. Helen’s life revolved around taking care of her family and others. She enjoyed working on her home, gardening, cooking, canning, refinishing furniture, and crocheting. Helen was an exceptional baker and was known for her Hungarian cookies, potica, and beloved cherry pie. She loved to play bingo, going to yard sales, and dancing polkas and waltzes with her husband Jack. Helen was a devout Catholic and long-time member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church where she served as Eucharistic Minister, a member of the Parish Council, and RCIA sponsor. She worked on countless church dinners and fundraisers for the Church. Helen’s grandchildren were her pride and joy. They would spend time outside together, watch movies, put puzzles together, dance in the kitchen, play the piano, and learn to work. At grandma’s house there was always plenty of good food to eat, a comfortable place to sleep, and memories to cherish. Helen always lent a helping hand to a neighbor in need or a friend. We love you mom and will miss you. Thank you for being such a wonderful example in our lives. You will forever be in our hearts. Helen is survived by her son Jack (Pam) Matekovic, Helper; daughters, Valerie Oaks, Henderson, NV; and Lisa (Paul) Richens, Price; three grandsons, Chad (Ajia) Oaks, Henderson, NV; J.K. Matekovic, Rock Springs, WY; and Nathan Richens, Price; three granddaughters, Jessica (Kevin) Williams, Henderson, NV; Katie (Cameron) Oliver, Lehi, UT; and Ashley Richens, Price; and six great grandchildren, Cayden Williams; Odin and Keira Oaks; Norah and Graham Oliver; and Carlo Matekovic.
