The Carbon High School boys’ basketball team went 1-1 last week, picking up a 55-41 win over Richfield High School, but falling to Canyon View High School 63-52.
An 18-2 point run in the third quarter led the Dinos to a win over the Wildcats of Richfield on Wednesday, with senior Kyle Quinton leading the team with 17 points. The game was tied at 13 points after the first quarter and at 23 at halftime. However, 18 points by the Dinos in the third period, compared to the Wildcats’ mere two, tilted the game in Carbon’s favor significantly. Despite Richfield outscoring Carbon in the fourth quarter 16-14, the Dinos pulled off the victory.
Along with Quinton’s 17 points, sophomore Derek Hillam scored 13 points in the game.
The Dinos did not fare quite so well on Friday against the Falcons of Canyon View, however. Carbon led through halftime, going into the break ahead 29-25. The Falcons were able to outscore the Dinos in the third quarter and take a slight two-point lead. With 22 points in the fourth quarter, compared to the Dinos’ 13, the Falcons sent the Dinos home with a loss.
Carbon is now 10-11 overall and 3-4 in Region 12 play. The Dinos will host Juab High School on Friday for their final game of the regular season, with tip-off slated for 7 p.m.
