The Carbon High School baseball team rallied for an extra-inning win over the Wildcats of Richfield High School on Tuesday, scoring seven runs in the eighth inning to earn the 9-4 victory.
Carbon led the game, the second of a doubleheader, 2-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh and final inning, but Richfield scored two runs to tie the game and send it into extras.
The Dinos began the top of the eighth inning with both Gavin Robinett and Kameron Gunter being hit by pitches. After a sacrifice bunt by Wyatt Wilson, Nate Olson walked to load the bases. A two-RBI single by Collin Lewis, scoring Robinett and Gunter, gave the Dinos a two-run lead over the Wildcats.
Chase Morgan was hit by a pitch to load the bases once again, and an RBI-sacrifice fly by Cody Lowe tacked on a third run for the Dinos. They weren’t done yet, however, with walks dealt to Jayden Flemmett and Jadon Robertson back to back, Lewis scored. Morgan scored on a wild pitch, and Jayden Flemmett scored on an error by the shortstop, on which Robinett reached base. Robertson scored on another error in which Gunter reached base to round out the scoring at seven runs for the Dinos.
The Wildcats scored two runs of their own in the bottom of the eighth inning, the start of what could have been another comeback, but the Dinos were able to get out of the inning and returned home with the victory.
Lowe pitched 7.2 innings for the Dinos, allowing four runs, none earned. Morgan entered in the bottom of the eighth inning for the Dinos and was able to end the game with a pop-up to the first baseman. Lewis went 1-for-2 in the game with two RBI. Lowe went 2-for-5 at the plate with one RBI.
The Dinos lost to Richfield 6-0 in the first game of the doubleheader, allowing two runs in the first, two in the third and two in the fifth. Zac Bradley pitched the complete game for Carbon, allowing the six runs, five earned, while striking out five and walking none.
