An early lead by Union proved to be too much for the Dinos to overcome in Wednesday’s non-league game, as the Carbon High School baseball team lost to the Cougars 9-4.
The Cougars came out of the gate swinging the bat, and quickly put the Dinos behind by five runs after just one inning. However, Carbon scored two runs of their own in the second inning on an RBI single by sophomore Ty Anderson, and an error by Union’s third baseman to come within three runs of tying the game.
Despite two clean defensive innings from the Dinos, Union was able to add on to its lead, with a run in the fourth and another in the fifth. The Dinos got one run back in the fifth inning on an error by Union’s left fielder on a ball hit by sophomore Collin Lewis, but gave up two more runs in the top of the seventh.
The Dinos began to mount a small comeback in the bottom of the seventh, with senior Jayden Flemmett reaching on a double, and scoring on a Lewis RBI double. However, the Dinos left Lewis stranded at second and lost the game 9-4.
The Dinos are now 3-5 overall this season, and will begin Region 12 play this week. The Dinos will head to Juab High School for a doubleheader on Tuesday, and return home to host Juab on Friday with first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m.
