The four cities in Carbon County will have identical municipal elections coming up this fall. Voters in East Carbon, Helper, Price and Wellington will elect a mayor to a four-year term, and will also fill two four-year city council positions in each municipality.
The candidate filing period begins June 1, and declaration of candidacy forms or nomination petitions need to be filed by close of business Wednesday, June 7. According to Utah Code, any resident of a municipality may nominate a candidate for municipal office by filing a nomination petition to the city recorder or clerk. It must signed by 25 residents of the municipality who are at least 18 years old or by 20 percent of the residents. Price is the only Carbon County municipality that charges a filing fee to run for city office. The fee is $50.
Candidates must be registered voters and must have lived in the city in which they are running for office for 12 consecutive months before the date of the election. The municipal elections will be held on Tuesday, November 7.
