A New Mexico man was booked into the Carbon County Jail Monday night after speeding through Wellington and failing to pull over for an officer. The driver finally stopped when the vehicle he was driving smashed into a jersey barrier on the Price Exit 243 overpass. Traffic was backed up for a short time before being detoured via the westbound on-ramp.
According to a Wellington Police Department news release, Wellington Officer Sartori attempted to stop a vehicle for traveling 80 miles-per-hour in a 40 mph zone at about 7:00 p.m. The vehicle was eastbound on SR-6 and continued at a high speed, failing to respond to the officer’s signal to stop.
The driver was identified as Isaac Arthur from a New Mexico identification card. Arthur had several warrants for his arrest and is currently on felony probation. He was traveling with his mother, and both were transported to Castleview Hospital by ambulance with unspecified injuries.
Arthur was booked on charges of failure to respond to an officer’s signal to stop, reckless endangerment, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, reckless driving, driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs, open container, speeding, unsafe lane travel, driving on a revoked driver license, and for the outstanding warrants.
