Olivia Marie Phelps

Born: September 5, 1955. Died: August 23, 2017
Olivia (Livvy) Phelps, 61, passed away August 23rd, 2017 surrounded by her loved ones. She was born in Price, Utah on September 5, 1955 to Dr. and Mrs. Oliver Wendell Phelps. She grew up in Helper and graduated from Carbon High School. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Art’s Degree from Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington and later earned a Master’s Degree from Utah State University.
Livvy had an enormous heart and an immeasurable passion for helping children. She devoted her life and her career to the protection of children in her 30 years working for the State of Utah. She began her career as a caseworker and eventually a supervisor for Child Protective Services. From there, she became the Lead Service Review Analyst and then the Statewide Coordinator for the Court Appointed Special Advocate Program. Livvy was a very outspoken leader in advocating for children and in 2010 was awarded the Salt Lake Commission on Youth Award.
Livvy was very proud of her Irish heritage and her devotion to the Catholic faith. She had a tremendous zest for learning and reading. She loved music and was especially moved by “Blossom” by James Taylor. “Blossom, smile some sunshine down my way…lately, I’ve been lonesome.” Et lux perpetua luceat eis.
Preceded in death by her sister, Theresa (T’Ann) Steele; her parents, Dr. and Mrs. Oliver Wendell Phelps.
She is survived by her brother, Walker (Cindy) Phelps; her sisters, Pat (Leon) Erramouspe, Mary Clare Phelps, Michaela Phelps, and Helen (Keith) Fleming; her daughter, Mary (Ben) Korver; her son, Philip (Marissa) Sherman; granddaughters, Ava Marie Korver and Corrine Attalia Sherman; her grandsons, Kiean Joseph Sherman, Tristan Oliver Sherman, and Dominik Philip Sherman; brother-in-law, Ron Steele.
Funeral Mass, Wednesday, August 30, 2017, 10:00 A.M., St. Anthony Catholic Church, Helper, Utah. Vigil service, Tuesday evening, 7:00 P.M. at the church. Family will receive friends at St. Anthony’s Tuesday and Wednesday one hour prior to services. Committal service, Mt. View Cemetery, Helper. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home of Price where friends are welcome daily and may share memories of Livvy online at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net.
