The Carbon High School softball team is moving on in the 3A State Tournament, after going 1-1 on Saturday.
The Dinos lost in their first game of the day to Stansbury High School 6-3, despite tallying nine hits in the game. Carbon fell behind 4-0 after four innings and never made up that deficit. The Dinos scored one run in the fifth, but two by Stansbury in the seventh extended the lead. The Dinos started a rally in the bottom of the seventh, with a two-RBI double by Chandelle Nichols, but could not come back to take the win.
Falling into the consolation bracket, the Dinos faced Morgan High School later that day, picking up the victory with a stunning 11-run seventh inning to end the game and give the Dinos the 13-3 win. The Dinos got out to an early lead in the game, scoring two runs in the second inning. Morgan tied the game in the fourth inning, and went up by one run in the top of the fifth. However, 11 runs in the bottom of the fifth gave the Dinos a ten-run-rule win.
Alex Thayn went 2-3 in the game with a home run, a double and four RBI. Cali Fossat went 2-3 with a double and one RBI. McKenna Sorenson tallied four RBI on the day, while also pitching the complete game for the Dinos. Sorenson pitched five innings with four strikeouts, two walks, no earned runs and just one hit.
The Dinos will play on Thursday at the Valley Softball Complex at 4:15 p.m. They will play the loser of the Grantsville vs Cedar City game.
