Candidate talks at Pinnacle HS

By Rick Sherman

Some students at Pinnacle Canyon Academy got a lesson in the political process, and some advice on how to succeed in the workplace from Chairman of the Board at Overstock.com, and Gubernatorial candidate Johnathan Johnson Thursday. He told the students when they enter the workforce, they should learn to solve problems and, look for ways to make their bosses’ life easier. He said, “If you try to make someone’s life easier and you’re successful at it, you’re gonna rise up in the ranks.”
He also counseled them to stay informed on current events by reading the newspaper, and encouraged them register to vote when they turn 18.
Johnson spoke to about 50 tenth and eleventh grade students in Mrs. Jeptson’s U.S. History and U.S. Government class. She said, “It was a good experience for our kids to learn about the government process,” adding, “the students asked some good questions and stayed engaged the whole time.”
Johnson is running against incumbent Governor Gary Herbert in the Republican primary next month. During his campaign visit to Price, Johnson also introduced himself and made brief remarks at the Price City Council meeting and the Carbon County Board of Education meeting Wednesday evening.
