Morley, Blanc lead Lady Dinos to first round State win, girls head to SUU Thursday
Senior Sara Morley and junior Lindsey Blanc led the Lady Dinos to a first round victory in the 3A State Tournament over Bear River High school in Dino territory on Friday. Both girls scored 15 points in the exchange, with Morley also tallying 17 rebounds for a double-double on the night.
Carbon will now head to Cedar City to play at Southern Utah University in hopes of coming home with the title of State Champions. The Lady Dinos will take on Stansbury High School on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the quarterfinals of the tournament.
The Dinos defeated Stansbury in this same round of the tournament last season, winning in overtime 50-48.
Against the Bears of Bear River, the Lady Dinos secured the 47-22 win to send them on the road to the tournament. However, the game wasn’t as lopsided early on. The Dinos struggled offensively in the first half, only scoring eight points in the first period and 11 points in the second. However, the Bears also struggled on this side of the game and had only tallied eight points by halftime.
After the break, the Dinos came out stronger and more energized, capitalizing on the still-lagging Bears. Carbon held Bear River to a mere three points in the third period, while scoring 14 of their own. They added another 14 in the final period of the game, while the Bears only scored 11.
The Dinos made it to the semifinals of last year’s state tournament before being defeated by Morgan High School.
