On February 11, Carbon School District held its annual District Spelling Bee. Local winners from Bruin Point Elementary, Castle Heights Elementary, Creekview Elementary, Wellington Elementary, Helper Middle School and Mont Harmon Middle School competed for district honors.
After several rounds, James Bryner, 8th grade student from Mont Harmon, emerged as the Carbon District Bee Champion.
In second place was Katelynn Vasquez, 8th grade student from Helper;
Third place honors went to Lizzy Blackburn, 5th grade student from Creekview.
These three students will now move to the region competition to be held in Green River on March 8. The winner of the region competition will advance to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington DC to be held in May.
