PRICE-Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and longtime friend, John Robert “Bob” Olson, age 85, passed away Thursday, October 8, 2015 in Price while surrounded by his loving family.
He was born March 17, 1930 in Castle Gate, Utah to Robert Olson, Sr. and Grace Durrant. Married the love of his life, Diane Gardner, January 9, 1959 in Elko, Nevada.
Bob shared a deep love for cars, boats, airplanes and anything with a motor. He loved racing stockcars, boats and thoroughly enjoyed the thrill of fast cars and the competition of racing. His brilliant mind and mechanical abilities lead to many inventions, some of which were later patented. Bob was an avid pilot who built his own helicopter.
Bob was a longtime resident of Carbon County and a graduate of Carbon High School Class of 1948. He honorably served his country in the US Navy. Bob was the owner and operator of the first Honda Dealership in the area. He also owned and operated J.R. Bob Olson Phillip 66 Distributorship for 20 plus years and was able to retire at the age of 48. This allowed him to pursue his other hobbies of selling both cars and airplanes. Bob spent many weekends with his sons trap shooting and racing motorcycles. His wife and daughter were always there giving support as the “Pit Crew”. Bob taught his children many things. He was a great example and encouraged them to succeed in any endeavor. He loved to attend the grandchildren’s games and events. He was always there even when his health declined and his mobility was limited. Bob was a proud man who had a deep love for his family. His legacy of hard work and dedication will be passed on from generation to generation.
