KNOXVILLE,TN/PRICE-Douglas “Doug” Hackwell, age 81, passed away peacefully December 9, 2015 at his home in Knoxville, Tennessee while dedicating the last several years to the care of his beloved wife, Monique.
He was born October 29, 1934 in Manti, Utah to Alfred Henry and Delma Sudweeks Hackwell. Married Anne Ingram, later divorced. While serving in the Army, he met the love of his life, Monique A. Sieuw in Belgium. They have been married for the past forty years.
Doug served his country and eventually retired from the US Army. He served two tours of duty in Germany, Korea and Vietnam where he was awarded the Bronze Star at Fort Douglas for his patriotism. Doug was very patriotic and dedicated his life not only to his country, but most importantly to his family and friends.
His pride and joy were his grandchildren, especially the great-grandkids that he loved to spoil. They have many fond memories of their “Grandpa Doug” and they will cherish them forever. While residing in Knoxville, Doug and Monique were blessed with many incredible friends and neighbors. They treated the couple as family and his family will be forever grateful.
Survivors include his wife, Monique Hackwell, Knoxville, TN; son, Richard (Joni) Hackwell, Price; step-daughter, Jacqueline Corbisier, Belgium; 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Shannon Halamandaris, Price; brothers, Glen (Dorothy) Hackwell, California, Earl (Grace) Hackwell, Ohio, Roy (Linda) Hackwell, Helper; and his best friend, “Butters” the family dog.
Preceded in death by his parents, step-daughter, Chantal; sister, Noreen Anderson; and his other faithful companion, “KiKi”.
The family welcomes friends to join them at Mitchell Funeral Home (233 East Main Street) in Price, Utah on Friday, December 18, 2015 from 6:00-7:00 p.m. Doug will be laid to rest at the Cliffview Cemetery in Price with military honors by the Price American Legion Post # 3.
